10:20 am

The hard taps from the rain on the window was enough to wake Cora from her slumber. It had been pouring for a couple hours now with harsh winds slamming against the building. Her eyes fluttered open revealing an unfamiliar environment. She was in an old grubby motel and no one was in sight. She propped herself up and rubbed her eyes trying to see clearly. Her ears had a horrible ringing in them and her throat stung with every breath she took. She could barely remember what had happened and her mind was racing. In the background the song 'Flesh For Fantasy' by Billy Idol played on a retro radio. "You see and feel my sex attack sing it, Flesh, flesh for Fantasy". The tunes were a bit muffled out by the sound of water running from a shower. She felt a bit dizzy and hungry but most of all, confused. She looked around the room trying to get familiar with her surroundings. "What the fuck?" Cora muttered. It felt as though five minutes ago she were surrounded by black smoke and now here she was, sleeping in a shitty motel. As she laid back down in bed sinking into the cold, stiff mattress the bathroom door abruptly opened and she quickly sat back up.

The tall slender man stepped out of the bathroom and into the main bedroom area. His hair was wet and messy with a few strands resting in front of his face. A towel hung loosely around his waist. Cora couldn't help but check him out, 'God he looks good'. Trying not to make it obvious she pulled her eyes off of him and fidgeted with the sheets on the bed. When she looked up their eyes met. It was hard to keep eye contact especially considering that his towel seemed like it would drop at any second.

"You're finally up. Are you hungry at all?" His deep voice boomed.
"Yeah." Cora mumbled, fixing her eyes on the bed again.

He went into the bathroom, got changed, and did his hair. When he came out he grabbed a takeout box sitting on a little table and nodded his head, signalling Cora to come over. She proceeded to sit at the table with Richard. He handed her the meal and began to eat his.

"Thank you".
Richard responded with a simple "Mhm." and went back to eating.

Their meal consisted of pancakes with eggs and a piece of toast. Cora could feel his eyes burning on her but she was too nervous to look up.

"Why haven't you tried to leave yet? You had a chance and didn't take it." Richard questioned.
"Well if I'm honest I don't really have anywhere to go. My dad was abusive and my mom is an alcoholic who can't stick up for herself... or her daughter. So I left as soon as I could. And from then on I've been on my own. They don't care about me or where I am, so what's the point?"
Cora shifted awkwardly and looked up at Richard who had an expression on his face making him seem a tad bit concerned.

"What about you? What's your story?" Cora inquired.
Richard paused for a second and then finally answered.
"My dad was abusive as well and would beat my siblings and I. I started having seizures at six. Everything just seemed to fall apart after that. My cousin shot his wife in front of me at eleven and before I knew it I was getting involved with drugs and dropped out of school. I got outta Texas and came here. That's when I started killing. My parents don't give a fuck about me, never did. No one does."
"Shit." Cora exhaled

Richard quickly changed the subject making it obvious that the topic was very uncomfortable. "Technology is pretty advanced now. I didn't expect it to be like this."
She chuckled "Yeah it's pretty amazing isn't it?"
"I never did catch your name blue eyes."
"Cora, it's Cora. If you don't mind I'm going to go wash up."
She still had her clothes from yesterday on. They were all dirty and many parts had rips.

"Wait." Richard called out. He reached beside him and handed her a bag. Inside was a fresh pair of clothes and 150$ in cash. The outfit was a pair of jean shorts that stopped just before her mid thigh along with a plain black t-shirt. It wasn't the most fashionable outfit but Cora didn't care. She could tell that he really did try and she appreciated it.

"The money is for whatever you want."
"Thanks." She smiled.

She turned the shower on, while waiting for it to heat up she pulled out her phone and started playing 'Come as you are' by Nirvana. The melody instantly made her mood lighten up a bit more as she stripped her clothes off and got into the warm water. She hummed the words as her fingers ran through her soaked hair. After everything that had happened in the last couple hours she could just relax and blow off some steam. It gave her time to process what really went on last night. "Why hasn't Richard killed me yet? What does he want? What is he going to do with me?" So many questions were going through her mind right now. She finished washing up and got out. She put her clothes on and combed through her wavy hair eventually putting it up into a wet messy bun.

Cora went and sat on the single bed meanwhile Richard was in a chair across from the tv watching some football. Without making any eye contact with him she blurted out "What do you want with me? Why am I here?"

Richard looked over and walked towards her. Towering above her he put his hand on her chin and lifted her head up to where she was looking up at him.

"You my darling are here for my personal guide and entertainment. A toy as you may. You are going to tell me about this 'new world' and help me around. You will help me with other needs too but as of right now that is your job."

Cora swallowed harshly. He pushed her chin lightly and went back to watching tv.
A couple of minutes later the young girl grabbed her phone, popped a piece of mint gum in her mouth, and got her shoes on.
"I'm going shopping. I'll be back in a bit."
Before she could walk out the door he grabbed her arm and turned her body towards him.

"Try anything stupid and Satan will show me the way to you." Richard hissed through his teeth.
She nodded her head and he let go of her leaving an imprint on her arm of where his hand was.

2:00pm

The rain had finally stopped and Cora was able to walk a few blocks away to a mall. She bought some cute outfits that surprisingly didn't cost much, perfumes, lotions, chapsticks and some small snacks. She had also picked out some lingerie just in case she ever hooked up with anyone. 'You never know who you're going to meet'. She figured that home wasn't too far so she called an Uber to drive back to her old apartment. From there she grabbed a big backpack and started to stuff it with more clothes, an iPhone charger, jewelry, makeup, toothbrush, deodorant, hair ties, her wallet and other essentials. Once she was done she locked her doors up and took the Uber back to the motel. When she walked in the door Richard chuckled. "Took yourself on a little shopping spree, did ya?"
She replied smiling "haha yup."

8:45pm

The two were in a booth eating some dinner at a small restaurant not too far from the motel. Richard had a burger and fries meanwhile Cora had some spaghetti and breadsticks. Richard turned his head for a slight second giving Cora the opportunity to swiftly steal a fry off of his plate.

"Di-did you just snatch a fry off my plate?" Richard laughed.
"No, what are you talking about?!" Cora lied, hiding a smirk behind her expression.
"You owe me a breadstick now you bitch."
"Oh hell no! You get a bite and that's it." She argued.
"Fine."
She held the breadstick up to his mouth as he took a bite off the end of it.

1:00am

Cora put on some baggy pajama shorts along with a bra. The heat was a killer and even having a simple  t-shirt on made you hot. She let her hair out of the bun and put it in two loose braids. She went and laid in bed facing the wall with her back towards the open room. About ten minutes later she felt the bed sink in next to her. He wasn't wearing anything but some boxers. Richard was lying on his back and she could feel his warm skin faintly against hers. He smelled of cheap cologne and lavender. Cora didn't move an inch and neither did he. That is how they fell asleep for the rest of the night not speaking a word to each other.
