alright, see you thenZak grinned, shutting off his phone and slipping it in his pocket, standing up and exiting his room. It was the weekend, therefore meaning that there was no school. They didn't have to worry about that.
Well, Zak probably had to worry about the stacks of homework he still hadn't done. But we didn't talk about that.
"Hey, mom?" Zak poked his head into his mom's room, "Would it be alright if I went over to Techno's house for a little?"
Zak's mother turned to face Zak, softening.
"Well, that's fine with me. But... Zak, have you checked with his mother? I don't know if she'd approve."
"No, she said it was alright," Zak assured her, "It's resolved, now. Everything's okay."
Zak's mom blinked, a slow smile forming on her face at that.
"Well, okay. If I can, maybe I could come with you. I'd like to talk things out with her too."
Zak nodded.
"Sounds good. Oh! Techno's father is going to be there too, as well as his sisters. They're visiting."
Zak's mother laughed.
"It'll be nice to see them again."
Zak sighed. Things finally felt normal again. Things really felt okay."Techno! Your boyfriend's here!"
"Hey, stop teasing your brother!" Techno's mother scolded his sister, ushering her aside and looking up at the two. "Come on in."
Zak snickered, entering and noticing Techno in the main room. He gave a small wave, Techno soon returning it.
"It feels like forever since I've been here," Zak joked, scanning around the house in an attempt to prove his point.
"To be fair, it's been exactly 4 weeks and one day since you've last came over."
Zak gave Techno a weird look before deciding not to question the exact timing. He was about to suggest going to Techno's room, so they weren't just standing in the main room when he heard someone.
"Hey, Techno- Oh, is this Zak?"
Zak glanced up, noticing a man with a tall figure walk towards him, a smile tugging at his lips as he waved.
"Yeah, this is him," Techno nodded, awkwardly clearing his throat. He supposed he should attempt to make some sort of introduction. "Zak, this is my dad. Dad, this is Zak."
"It's nice to meet you, Zak," He briskly nodded, holding his hand out for the other to shake.
Zak, instead, gave him a fist bump, which was something he knew Techno would not let him live down. Although, they all had a pretty good laugh about it. Seriously, giving someone a fist bump when their hand is held out to be shaken wasn't one of his smartest moves.
He flickered his gaze upwards, taking note of Techno's mother, who had walked towards him. He felt slightly anxious, but reminded himself that she, herself, said it would be alright if he came over here.
"It's nice to see you again, Zak," She said, her tone finally calm and unforced. She wasn't trying to pick a fight, in fact, she was rather gentle.
"It's nice to see you as well," He told her, unsure of how to respond to this. He'd seen her talking to his mother, so he could only assume she'd gotten that part decently resolved, at least.
"I think I owe you an apology."
Zak blinked. If anything, he was kind of surprised. He hadn't expected to get an apology. Hell, simply being allowed to talk to Techno without her hunting them down felt like it was enough.
"It's okay," He assured her, wincing as Techno had to rush to the side and stop one of his sisters from knocking over a vase.
"No, it wasn't. I really shouldn't have treated you with such little respect, and to that, I really do apologize."
Zak smiled a little.
"It's alright. I think everything's okay now."
Besides, for now, it was. And, once they had ensured no vases would be breaking anytime soon, the two of them headed towards Techno's room.
Even though Zak had seen it many times before, it was something familiar, and rather nice. The walls were painted a plain white, and a table sat beside Techno's bed. He had a neatly organized collection of books, which was no surprise, even when they first met. Techno gave nerdy vibes, as Zak liked to call it.
"You want to play Minecraft or somethin'?" Techno suggested, motioning towards his computer.
"There's only one computer," Zak hummed, "I guess we'll have to share it. I will make sure you lose."
"Bro, what a scam," Techno playfully complained, logging onto Minecraft, the nostalgic game that he'd been playing for a while now.
They went at it for a while, overall just having a good time. They got to thoroughly enjoy each others presence, something they hadn't been able to do for a good amount of time.
And, no matter how hard Zak tried, Techno simply won every game. How? Neither of them knew. The only thing Techno knew was that his bedwars streak was still going strong.
Soon, they both grew bored of the block game, closing out of it.
Techno clicked his tongue, glancing towards Zak.
"So... what do you want to do now?"
Zak bit his lip. He'd actually had a question in the back of his mind he was planning to ask Techno, but he didn't know how he could do so.
"Uh... Actually, I was wondering something."
"Go for it. There's 1,800 different types of cheese in the world, if that's what you were wondering."
Zak couldn't help but laugh at how blatantly it was said.
"Thank you for that information, but no, that was not what I was wondering."
"I see. Well, what is it?"
Zak awkwardly kept his eyes on the floor.
"What... What are we, exactly? I mean, we're probably not only friends, but I'm not sure we've actively talked about being together."
Techno tilted his head.
"What would you like?"
Zak felt his face burn with embarrassment as he tugged at the strings of his hoodie.
"I wouldn't mind it if we... you know, dated. But- only if you want to, of course!" Zak looked up, although he wasn't exactly meeting Techno's gaze as he rambled, "We don't have to do anything if you don't want to. I mean-"
"I think I'd love to date you, Zak," Techno slowly reached out for his hand. Adoration filled his eyes.
Zak blinked.
"Wait- really?"
"No, I was joking. Obviously," Techno grinned shortly afterwords.
Zak let a soft laugh out as he squeezed onto Techno's hand.
"That's good. That- That genuinely makes me really happy."
Techno only smiled at him.
"I'm glad."
The two didn't think they'd ever felt more content in the entirety of their lives.
Today was definitely a day. No, a good one, at that.
Today was good.
