narrator's pov:

Eiji had just woken up from his not so rest full nap on the plane ride back to America.

His head was pounding from his earlier burst of emotions. He was exhausted.

" My head is killing me." Eiji told Ibe. "Are you okay? Do you need some medicine?" Ibe replied in a worried tone. "Its okay Ibe-san. I'll be fine. I'm just really worried about Ash." "Don't worry, I'm sure he's fine.  American hospitals are great."

To be honest, Ibe wasn't totally sure he was telling the truth. He had heard no new update on Ash's condition from Max since they'd left Japan. He desperately hoped he didn't just lie straight to Eiji's face.

They started to make their way out of the airport. In the dead of night, the only thing lighting up the sky was the bright and boastful airport.  As they began driving further and further onto the night-drenched roads back to Ash, Eiji started to feel lonely. He had almost convinced himself that all of this was his fault. It was like a darkness eating poor unsuspecting Eiji from the inside out and he had noticed this dark mood on the plane ride back.

Before he knew it, Eiji began to dread seeing Ash again. Truthfully, Eiji's the one who got him into this mess. If he wasn't know as the "photographers assistant" who was writing a report on a regular New York City gang by D*no and his affiliates then they would've never had to go through all the trouble of destroying banana fish and Eiji would've had a normal vacation in America.

Eiji's brain felting it was going to spiral again so he quickly chose to occupy his mind with other, happier, thoughts.

He began thinking about his sister.

He thought about what she would think about this situation. She'd probably know exactly what to say to calm him down. She'd also probably make fun of him for basically falling in love with an American gang leader of all people.

Thinking about his sister calmed him down a bit and he thought maybe he should call her later.

Eiji was still tired, even after his two long naps on the plane. He figured he should just settle down and listen to music to wait out the car ride. He opened Spotify and played some relaxing piano music.

The music was peaceful and calming as they came closer to the bright and bold city of New York during the dead of night. It was almost 3am when they drew near the condo that they called home for weeks.

Everybody was exhausted. Ibe and Max said their goodbyes as they reached the doors, promising to see each other the next day. As soon as Max left, Ibe walked over to his bed and collapsed, letting out an tired yawn. Before Eiji had a chance to say goodnight, Ibe was already asleep.

Eiji figured it would be a good idea if he got some rest too, so after taking a shower and changing, he too, collapsed on the bed only to be hit with a sharp pain in his stomach. "Oh yeah" he thought out loud. "That's still healing" he said, referring to his newest wound. He went to the bathroom to put some ointment on it and then he went to sleep.
