Year 2…
"I'm so glad that we can finally do this," Kara said to the guy in front of her, giving him a small smile.
"Yeah, I was about to give up because you had to keep cancelling." The guy said before drinking some wine.
They were in a restaurant, with low lighting and a good romantic song in the background. All in all, it was the textbook definition of a perfect date and there is nothing in the world that can ruin it for Kara.
But then her phone rang.
She smiled apologetically at her date before digging her phone from her purse when she saw the name of the caller.
Barry Allen.
Kara was hesitant to answer the phone, knowing that Barry was either calling because there is an emergency or just to mess with her and ruin her date...for the fifth time.
For the past year, Barry had been teasing and pranking her, embarrassing her in front of their coworkers, their captain, even the witnesses in the crime scenes.
And so she declined the call and tried to focus on her date. They talked about their own interests and stuff going on in their lives but as much as Kara wants to just focus on her date, she couldn't help but feel like she should've taken that call. There is a sinking feeling inside her that something bad is gonna happen or has happened.
As if on cue, her phone rang again but this time, it was Cisco who called her. The sinking feeling grew stronger as she heard the news. She muttered a quick goodbye to her date, apologizing for leaving early, then paying on the counter their bills. She got in her car and drove away from the restaurant.
It all happened fast but only one phrase repeated in Kara's mind.
"Kara, you need to go to Central City General Hospital. Barry's been shot."
Central City General Hospital…
Kara arrived at the hospital thirty minutes later due to traffic, she immediately rushed to the front desk to ask where Barry's room was.
Room 520.
When she finally got there, she saw Alex, Cisco, Diggle, and Caitlin sitting in the room, all of them looking worryingly at Barry, who was still sleeping on the hospital bed.
Kara walked to his bedside, feeling guilty that Barry was injured just because she chose her date over her coworker. Her almost-friend.
"He just got out of surgery. The doctors said that he lost too much blood, so he needs to rest up and take it easy for a while." Cisco said, who apparently stood up from his seat and went to her side.
"This is all my fault," Kara said, holding back a sob.
"Hey, don't say that, Barry wouldn't want you to blame yourself. The important thing is that he's alive and that's all that matters." Cisco said rubbing her back, consoling her.
Hours later, she was sleeping beside his bedside while the others went home to try to get some sleep. It was about 4 o'clock when Kara felt Barry's hand, whom she was holding, move. She groggily sat up straight to see him smiling weakly at her.
"You came," Barry said, his voice still hoarse.
"Yeah, but I was too late."
"You still came."
Silence fell between them before Kara's sob broke it.
"I'm so sorry, If I just accepted your call, I-"
"Hey, don't blame yourself, it's nobody's fault. Well, except Sam Scudder, the murderer but it's fine, everything's gonna be fine." Barry reassured her.
Kara nodded her head as she wiped the tears away from her eyes.
"I promise you that next time if you need me to come, I'll come." She said with resolve, earning a grateful smile from Barry.
But that grateful smile turned into a mischievous smirk.
"'If you need me to come, I'll come' is the title of your upcoming sex tape said jokingly, earning a small laugh from the blonde.
"He's back." She said with a smile.
'He's fine and that's all that matters.'
