"HEY," SPENCER SPOKE WHEN THE FACETIME CALL BETWEEN HERSELF AND BROOKLYN CONNECTED ON THEIR LAPTOPS. "Where'd you go during lunch?" The blue-eyed girl had suddenly disappeared during lunch without saying a word to any of her friends.
Brooklyn huffed as she moved around on her bed to make herself comfortable. "To pee in a cup," she answered.
"What?"
"Ezra drove me to the doctors so I could take a UDS."
"Why?" Spencer wondered, her brows furrowed in confusion.
"Because 𝗔 planted hydrocodone in my ibuprofen bottle and Ezra found it. I told him that someone must've broken in and put them there but that doesn't make me sound too credible."
"So now he thinks you're taking drugs?"
Brooklyn nodded. "It wouldn't be the first time," she muttered, though Spencer heard her.
"You mean you've had... issues in the past?"
"Yeah. I was always strung on something but my mom forced me to go to rehab," Brooklyn revealed. "I've been clean for a few months, but with my drug history, it's understandable that he doesn't believe me. I took the urine test to prove to him that I'm not taking anything."
"When do you get results?" Spencer asked.
"Don't tell me you think I'm using too."
Spencer shook her head in denial. "No, I'm not saying that. It's just... why would 𝗔 go through the trouble of planting hydrocodone in your house if it wasn't actually in your system?"
"Are you saying that 𝗔's slipping drugs into my meals?"
"I'm not sure but it's a possibility. That bitch has hundreds of tricks up their sleeve."
Brooklyn released a shaky breath. "Ezra will lose his mind if my results come back positive. He will literally move in with me to monitor my every move."
"What? What's that look for?" Spencer questioned when she noticed a look of disbelief spread across Brooklyn's face.
"'You're next'. That's what 𝗔 texted me during lunch the other day."
"We all got texts too, but ours said 'Look at you, all alone in a crowd. I win!'. We know what ours meant but what does yours mean?"
"𝗔 somehow worked a wedge between you and the others through Dr. Sullivan and now thanks to her, you guys aren't allowed to speak to one another. What if this is their way of driving a wedge between me and you guys? Can't talk to you from rehab," Brooklyn scoffed.
"You're not going to rehab, Brooklyn," Spencer spoke assuringly.
Brooklyn nodded in agreement. "You're right. Ezra's going to send me to nun school where they teach you the meaning of the word 'no' and all you sing are songs about Jesus. Don't get me wrong, I'm a believer, but I don't want the only songs I sing to be about him."
Spencer laughed at the girls panicked ranting. "Brooklyn, breathe, okay? You're going to be fine."
"Yeah, I thought so until someone put the idea that 𝗔's been secretly drugging me into my head. Spence, what am I gonna do if that test comes back positive. I can't go back to rehab. I-I won't. I don't deserve it."
