BROOKLYN WALKED INTO SCHOOL with a coffee in her left hand and her right hand over her mouth, shielding what seemed like her thousandth yawn that morning. She didn't get any sleep the night before and was beyond tired. Anyone could see how tired she was just by looking at the bags under her eyes or her unusually slouched posture.
"Hey. What's up with you?" Aria asked as she walked side by side with Brooklyn.
Brooklyn held a finger up as she yawned again. "Tired," she answered. "I didn't get any sleep last night."
"How come?"
"My neighbors went out of town and left their teenage kids home alone and they threw a party that went on until four in the morning."
"Yikes."
Brooklyn scoffed. "Tell me about it. I feel like I have a hangover and I didn't even go to the party." Aria laughed. "Hey, how's Hanna?"
"She says that she's fine but we know that she's hurting," Aria answered as she opened her locker.
"Is she coming in today?"
"I'm not sure. I actually haven't heard from her yet."
"Oh. If she doesn't show, I can't get her work from the classes we have together and I can give it to one of you."
Aria nodded. "That'd be great, thanks."
"No prob—Incoming," she muttered upon seeing Caleb approaching them.
"Got a second?" Caleb asked the two, though his attention was mainly on Aria.
"Um... Sure."
"Look, I don't know what Hanna's told you—"
"Everything!" Aria snapped in a hushed tone. "She's my best friend."
Brooklyn was having a hard time keeping a straight face due to Aria's mom slowly passing the trio, mouthing something to her daughter. All Brooklyn could make out was 'he's cute' and that made her snicker which she covered up with a cough.
"Then maybe you can help me. She's having a hard time hearing how sorry I am. She won't take my calls, she looks the other way whenever I see her—"
Aria interrupted the boy. "Caleb. Have this conversation with Hanna, okay?" Aria slammed her locker shut then grabbed Brooklyn's wrist, dragging the blue eyed girl with her.
"Okay, what was all that?"
"All what?"
"You're mom miming to you as she walked past us."
Aria scoffed as she rolled her eyes. "Oh, that. Despite me wanting to keep my relationship private, she's still trying to guess who that text was meant for."
"Let me guess, she's assuming it's every guy you talk to in the hall?"
"Yep," Aria breathed out in annoyance.
"Oh, look," Brooklyn spoke, teasingly nudging Aria at the sight of her brother. "There's your actual boy toy. Y'know, the one with the eyes you want to be looking into right this second."
Aria laughed as she playfully shoved Brooklyn's shoulder. "Stop it."

"Do you plan on going to the Founders Day festival?" Brooklyn looked away from her laptop and looked up at Ezra.
