An Imperial Affliction [Star Wars Rebels] [UNFINISHED]

Halfway There

"Ezra, be careful!" Kanan spoke to his padawan through his earpiece.
"I know!" Ezra silently said into the microphone.

Ezra had been crawling through the air vents of an imperial building for an hour. The first week of school had come to an end. (The first day was on Thursday.) He was still shocked that he met face-to-face with Agent Kallus yesterday. Well, yesterday was actually several minutes ago. He was in the air shaft of an imperial building at 1:05 AM. Ezra finally reached the place was trying to get to. He jumped down and began to look around.

"Specter one, are you ready?" Ezra asked.
"Just a second. Sabine's still syncing the camera to Chopper," Kanan replied.

A few moments later, Kanan gave Ezra a signal and he jumped down from the air shaft and into the empty hallway. Ezra began to walk around the building. Before he walked any further, Chopper scanned the next hallway.

"Ezra, be careful! There are cameras around the corner!" Sabine warned him.
"Well, what should I do?" Ezra asked.
"Use the force to dislocate some wires," Kanan suggested.

Ezra followed his advice. After focusing, the wires were disconnected. Sabine gave him the command to go ahead. Ezra entered the large galley and saw a round room with several other doors. They were all offices.

"It's the third one from the left," Sabine directed him.

Ezra approached the door and looked through the window. A light turned on in the office and Ezra quickly ducked.

"Be careful!" Kanan shouted.

Ezra leaned tightly against the wall and hid from the person in the room. He could see a face peer through the window and look around. After the person left, Ezra thought he'd seen his face before. Curiously, Ezra stepped away from the wall and glanced at the name plaque on the door frame. Ezra gasped.

"Ezra, what is it?" Sabine asked.
"I can't do this right now!" Ezra whispered and silently dashed back to the air shaft.
"Ezra, what do you mean you can't do it?" Sabine shouted.
"You wouldn't believe me!" Ezra told her as he closed the air vent.

Sabine sighed as the connection was cut off. Kanan walked back into the kitchen and saw Sabine. She seemed distraught. Something was going on.

"What's wrong?" Kanan looked at her.
"Ezra aborted the mission," Sabine said.
"What do you mean?" Kanan stepped back.
"Let's find out," Sabine turned on the comm.

After connecting to Ezra's earpiece, they began to talk.

"Ezra, what's going on?" Kanan inquired solemnly. "Why did you drop out of the mission?"
"It's hard to explain," Ezra replied as other noises interfered with his reply.
"Just tell us!" Sabine said.
"The office you guys want me to break into is...Mr. DeSoto's!" Ezra told them.
"Who's?" Kanan and Sabine questioned.
"Listen, you guys know that girl I'm friends with? Arianne? Well her father is Agent Reginald DeSoto!" Ezra panicked.
"If you do the mission right, they'll never know it's you," Kanan told him.
"Yes, but Mr. DeSoto was in his office!" Ezra said.

Kanan took a seat next to Sabine and forced her to move over.

"Kanan, exactly what were the plans you guys needing?" Ezra curiously asked.
"We need plans for how they're going to capture us. We're not going to fall that easily to the Empire," Kanan replied.
"Seriously?" Ezra exclaimed angrily.
"What is it?" Sabine asked.
"Nothing," Ezra curtly said before cutting off the conversation.

Ezra was making his way out of the air shaft. He exited and began to run across the roof of the imperial building. He made sure his shadow wasn't cast on any other buildings. He jumped from building to building. The school was nearby. This part was tricky. Ezra pulled out a suction cup grappling hook and aimed it at the side of the school. He ensured that the grappling hook was secure and then leaped off the building. After sneaking back into the building and into his dorm, he fell on top of his bed. He was completely exhausted. Ezra glanced up at the clock. It was 3 AM. After going through the first three days of school, he had seen everything he didn't want to see. His new friends parents were hunting him. One wrong move could cause a huge catastrophe. He couldn't fall asleep. There was too much to think about. Agent Reginald DeSoto. Agent Kallus. Kanan, Hera, Sabine, Zeb, and Chopper. Arianne, Dash, Kazi, and Xenon. High school was a mess!
