SLAM!

Lisa startles and cracks open one eye. "Huh?"

She blinks, disoriented, and turns her head to the right, in the process managing to crinkle the page of the book under her cheek. A small distance away from her face, another book that's the size and weight of several bricks rests on the table.

A pair of hands is holding the book, and the person who slammed the book against the table is still-obviously-attached to the hands.

Lisa yawns and sits up, following the line of the arms up to a slim shoulder and then all the way to an unamused face.

Feline eyes seething with cold anger stare at her, and the stare lets Lisa know that this person would like nothing better than to slam the book on her head instead of right next to it.

"No sleeping in the library." The words are whispered, but the hissing sound is loaded with all the rage of a thunderstorm.

With that, the angered stranger lifts the massive book from the table and vanishes between the shelves in a flash of long brown hair.

Lisa rubs her eyes and stretches. "What the hell was that?"

Across the table, Chaeyoung looks up from her study book and rolls her eyes heavenward like she's seen this circus too many times already. And sure, Lisa has slept in the campus library before, but this is the first time a beautiful stranger with angry eyes has called her out because of it.

"That's the new assistant librarian," Chaeyoung says, turning the page. "Fresh back from her foreign exchange year."

Assistant librarian? Lisa recalls hearing something about that. Or maybe she read about it on the campus news app? Either way, it rings a bell, then another one, but her sleep-fuzzy head takes a few seconds to finally make the connection. When it finally clicks, she whips around in her chair to stare after the stranger, even though she's long gone by now.

"Wait," Lisa says, slow and disbelieving. "That's Jisoo Kim's cousin? Jennie?"

"Yup."

"But-" Lisa squints her eyes toward the aisle where the younger Kim disappeared. "I guess Jisoo got all the smiling genes of the family, then."

A slight chuckle escapes Chaeyoung's lips, even though she tries to look stern when Lisa turns to grin at her.

"If you spent more time studying and less time sleeping," Chaeyoung begins.

"-I wouldn't get in trouble. Blah blah." Lisa winks. "But who would then provide you with endless amusement, huh?"

Chaeyoung doesn't dignify that with an answer. Instead, she huffs and flips the page again. "You all good with the neurology exam material?" She asks with a faux-sweet smile.

Lisa looks down at her study book. The page is crumpled and there may or may not be a spot of drool where she fell asleep on it. "Oh yeah, totally. This is easy." She smooths the page with her fingers and closes the book, hoping it will undo the creases. If not, she suspects Jennie might do further damage to the book by introducing it to her head.

The exam is easy. Chaeyoung gives Lisa an eternally-suffering look when they get the results two weeks later and Lisa passes with flying colors.

"How do you do that?" Chaeyoung asks in a tone that Lisa would describe as whiny, but she doesn't want a fist in her face so she keeps the thought to herself.

"Do what?" Lisa asks with an air of innocence as she walks down the stairs of the science building. She spots two familiar figures in the distance. "Hey, Jisoo, Jennie!" she waves at the two Kims passing across the yard.
