"I have a theory."

"Hm?"

"Chaeng, are you even listening to me?"

"Yeah, yeah," Chaeyoung says. "I'm paying attention. I'm listening."

Jisoo knows for a fact that Chaeyoung, who is half asleep over her study notes and sipping her coffee like her life depends on it, is not listening. But whatever. Jisoo'll make her.

"It's going to be Jennie."

At that, Chaeyoung looks up, frowning. "What?"

"The girl," Jisoo says. "It's going to be Jennie."

Chaeyoung looks very confused for a second, but then sighs. "Chu, once again, you're not making any sense. Are those lab reports getting the best of you? Do we need to take a break?"

"You need to take a break. Chaeyoung, come on," Jisoo presses on. "The girl. We've talked about this. The one that's going to make the difference. Break Lisa's pattern, or whatever you were calling it. It's going to be Jennie. I'm sure of it."

Chaeyoung is silent for a few seconds, and then she says, "Wait, what? Jennie Kim? Our Jennie?"

Jisoo really needs to find some friends who are up at her level.

"No, the other Jennie Kim," she says flatly, and then she rushes out in a single breath, "Chaeyoung, the point is that I've been paying attention and I'm telling you now, something is going to happen, and it's going to happen with Jennie, and there's no way anyone of us is ever going to be able to stop it anymore, because in fact, it is already happening."

Chaeyoung blinks. "I'm still not sure exactly what you're trying to say here."

Focus, Jisoo wants to yell.

But she's a good friend, so she takes a few deep breaths. "Okay, how about this? Remember last year, when we were at that bar East off campus, and you were the one who said that it would take someone really special to make Lisa lose her whole cool-girl-who-doesn't-date-and-only-cares-about-soccer attitude?" Chaeyoung nods, slowly. "I think that girl is Jennie."

At that, Chaeyoung starts laughing. "Jennie and Lisa? They're just friends."

"No," Jisoo says, trying to stop herself from raising her voice, because they're still in public, but barely managing. "See-that's what they want us to think."

Chaeyoung is looking at her like she's lost her mind.

"Take this," Jisoo says. She drops a notebook open between them, tapping her pen down on the page. "Evidence."

"You made a list? Jisoo-"

"First," Jisoo says, ignoring Chaeyoung's horrified expression. "They make out at that one party, beginning of the year."

"Yeah, but they-"

"They don't even sleep together, exactly!" Jisoo cuts in. "I knew you would say that."

"Actually, I was going to say that they didn't even know each other, but-"

"They don't sleep together," Jisoo says, unfazed. "Which, is very uncharacteristic for Lisa Manoban, as we know."

Chaeyoung sighs. "Okay..."

"Then," Jisoo says, pointing down at the paper again. "What a surprise-they're on the same soccer team. But instead of going down on each other in the locker room showers after the first practice session-" Chaeyoung makes a strangled sort of noise. "Which, is what we would expect from Lisa. Instead of that, they talk. They have a mature conversation and decide that it's the smarter decision to ignore whatever gay tension they have between them-" Chaeyoung groans. "And when has Lisa ever made a smart decision? My point exactly."
