Case 1 - "Scott"

Misha was waiting for me at the door. Usually it was Xavier's ugly mug opening the door. This time I was happy not to have to go through the emotional waiting game. Misha held his arms out and I stepped into his embrace. One thing about Misha, he gives good hug. He's a bit taller, so the whole security thing is there too. Even when we were trying to kill each other years ago, we never stopped caring for each other. I was there when he lost Kelly, the last woman he had given his heart to. And now here he was comforting me.

He brought me into the Library and put a glass of cold Chardonnay in my hand. "Spill" he demanded.

"The cancer caught up with him. He's been in hospital the last month and I had to watch him shrivel up into a shell right in front of me."

"Fuck man, that's horrible. Finish that glass and let's get on the good stuff. Let's get shitfaced."

I gave a watery smile and said "Sure."

The next thing I knew it was getting light out and we were both lying down on the chaises he had in the Library, a girl at his mouth a boy at mine. I hadn't had such a warm, tasty snack for a while. Misha saw me licking my lips and smiled.

"Fresh off my Romanian trawler." He told me.

As I checked the pulse of the young man sitting on my chair, he said "Don't worry Z. He's legal, willing and give him a few hours and I'll send him to your room if you like. You can wake up happy at least."

At my sad expression, he sighed. "Come on Bro. Get back on the horse. I know Kris was special, but you've been muttering about a demon for the last two hours. You need to pull yourself together and talk to me. Have fun, sleep with him if that's all you want to do. Just get it together and then spill it. Everything this time."

"Sleep first. I'm about dead!" I attempted a chuckle but I don't think I pulled it off.

Misha slapped my arm and rang the bell for Xavier to show me to my room for the day. I knew I'd sleep safely at least and I was honestly dead on my feet.

Misha went through our mutual contacts and let them know to expect a wake soon. He knew Kris had wanted to be cremated and so he got the ball rolling with the Funeral Directors that were on his payroll. He gave Xavier my phone to charge and then made sure I was comfortable before turning in for the day. As the sun set again, I roused from my sleep and felt the boy snuggle against my side. I played with his hair, it was thick and wavy and fell to his shoulders.

"Vrei mai mult?" He asked in Romanian.

"Nu mulƫumesc." I replied and he relaxed against me. I wasn't in the mood for sex and didn't need any more blood. I just wanted the feeling of someone in my arms. I knew he wasn't Kris, but it was comforting to be held by someone undemanding. I knew I'd have to face the preparations for sending Kris to his final rest, but for now I wasn't facing my grief.

I started thinking about Scott and the other issue that was hanging over my head. I really needed to sort that out too. Misha was going to be the only one I was going to be able to get any kind of help from. There were others of our kind who would come in case of other beings that needed putting down. I didn't want to call on them though. Demons were something we tended to lose too many friends to.

I shifted and he scooted back. "Baie" I said and headed for the bathroom. I put the water up as hot as I could stand and washed the day off. When I returned to the room with a towel wrapped around my waist, there were fresh clothes and a note from Misha waiting.

Reading the message I smiled. Misha was waiting for me in his office upstairs. He was waiting for an update on the demon problem and was slightly miffed I hadn't taken my sleeping companion up on his bounty. I smiled and got dressed. Walking up to the office lift, Xavier and the boy were waiting for me. Xavier opened the door for me and asked if I wanted his companion to accompany me upstairs. I smiled and told him I was in mourning and that under normal circumstances I would have been happy to have him accompany me.
