Luna and I sat on the red velvet settee in the secret living room, or whatever. She was playing with a single strand of her dark brown hair as I read a book on oracles that Grams gave me.

"What did ya think of the fireworks tonight, kid?" Luna asked.

"Too bright. Too loud." I said.

"Well sorry bout' that. But I saw you talking with Jack earlier tonight. Glad you're familiarizing yourself with my friends." She said. "He likes you, I can tell."

"Oh, that's cool." I was internally screaming.

"Yeah. Maybe you can convince him to show you his sketchbook once. Doesn't let us within five feet of the damned thing."

"Maybe. I'm still waiting for the catch though." I said.

"What catch?"

"Well you have all these amazing friends, and they just let me into your group. There's gonna be a catch. I just have to wait to find out what it is."

"Hm. What about your demon?"

"Oh, that..." I said, that made me so anxious. "Um w-what about it?"

"When's it gonna come for you?"

"I dunno. Eventually. This is why I need to study, to figure out how I'm gonna get rid of this stupid curse." I said, burying my face back in the book.

Luna dragged me into the bar from the first night after magic lessons. She sat me down at that same table with her friends. They all seemed a little more comfortable around me. The only problem was that Jack wasn't there.

"So Elizabeth, what did you think of the fireworks?" Priscilla asked.

"They were loud. And bright." I replied.

"Aw sorry you didn't enjoy yourself."

"Ah, it's fine."

Just then, Jack came in and placed a bundle of paper in front of me before taking a seat across from me.

"What is this?" I asked.

"A newspaper. Remember, I said I would get you one." I nodded, remembering our conversation from last night. I opened up the bundle, it was grey and it was like there were book pages arranged in an interesting way. He leaned forward and pointed at one of the book page things. "These are articles, they're like little stories."

I looked up at him and he moved his chair to sit closer to me. I looked back at the page.

"See there's this one. That title, the text in bold above the story, that's the headline. You read it and then decide whether or not you want to read that article." He said. I looked in awe at this.

"So each article is like a different book?" I asked.

"Yeah kinda. Just shorter." He seemed to notice how close our faces were when he moved his head away from me.

"Thank you, this is so cool." I said, running my fingers along the pictures and headlines as I curiously read through the articles. By the time I had finished reading the entire newspaper, I folded it back up. "And there's a new one of these everyday?" I asked Jack, who was drawing something in his sketchbook.

"Yeah." He said, gaze fixed on his work.

"With new stories?"

"Yup. That's how it works."

"What do I have to do to get you to bring me one of these everyday?" I asked, curiously tilting my head. He closed his sketchbook and moved his gorgeous blue eyes to my gaze and smiled slightly.

"Well you could show me some of those powers of yours." He had lowered his voice when he said this. I thought for a second.

"Okay." I said.

"Really?"

"If Luna trusts you, I trust you." I said. "But we can't meet near here. We need to find another, more private place."

"I know where we could go."
