chapter fifteen: bio project

"Get up! Get up! It's time to get up!" I hear Alex sing from the corner of my room.

"Mmmmmm" I groan and pull the covers over my head. He spanked me one time and now he thinks he can act like a dad. Nuh-uh.

"I'm going to go make a cup of coffee, you better be up by the time I get back." Alex warns.

I'll just stay asleep for 5 more minutes, that won't hurt anyone. 5 minutes turned into 10 minutes, 10 minutes turned into 15 and so on.

"Come down stairs Anna! It's time to leave!" Someone calls out from downstairs.

I shoot up from my bed and look at my apple watch. "Fucking shit I've been asleep for the past hour!"

I sprint to the bathroom to wash my face and put on my uniform. I brush my hair out a little bit, but I still look like a zombie. I literally just promised Mr Wilson I wouldn't be late to his class anymore so I guess looking like a zombie will have to do. Running down the stairs, Alex is waiting for me with a cup of coffee in his hands.

"Aren't you supposed to be at work right now?" I ask him.

"I'm taking you to school today." He grins. "I'm going to be more involved in your life."

No no no. Please just go back to work. I can't handle another man pushing me around, telling me what to do.

"You've never been involved in my life, and I've been doing just fine without you. So excuse me." I say with attitude and try to walk past him.

Alex's smile turns into a frown. "What did I just say yesterday night? I will not tolerate the disrespect any longer."

"Sorry, my bad that you've been a shitty step father. I could care less." I stood my ground and insulted him.

Alex takes in a deep breath and pinches his nose. "I know I haven't been there for you because of my job but I'm trying to change for you. I really am."

"At this point Mike is more of a father to me than you are." I sigh and walk away to go get my school bag. I could tell Alex wanted to say something but he just couldn't think of the words.

Alex took me to school and the car ride there was so awkward! You could feel the tension is the air. When I got out of the car Alex said he loved me. I don't know why he keeps saying that when it clearly isn't true. So my solution to the problem was to slam the door in front of his face. He deserved it.

"Nice to see you're on time Anna." Mr Wilson says as I walk in.

"I need to be anywhere but my house, even if that means coming to your boring class." I joke and take my seat.

"Hey! It's not that boring!" He pretends to be offended. He then walks to the front of the class to start his lesson for today.

His lesson was actually pretty fun today. We got to color and that's something you don't do very often in high school. After his class was over I walked into my biology class and sat next to Devyn so we can work on our project.

"So pretty girl, where do you think this piece should go." He says handing me a piece of paper labeled 'chromosome.'

I take the piece of paper from his hand and place it on the right side of our diagram. "Right there." I smile. "It looks beautiful doesn't it?" I ask him because we just finished putting on the last piece.

"Just like you." He laughs and stares into my eyes.

Wait, we just finished the project, does this mean..."Devyn, we finished the project..." I frown.
