Rex had finally finished his last form after much distraction, which was a relief.
But then he had nothing left to occupy his mind with, which was less great. The Captain knew he'd have to get over his anger quickly unless he wanted the General to pull him aside to ask him what was wrong.
Which was a conversation he was not going to have. There was nothing to talk about. He sat on the edge of his bed, unsure of what to do or where to go.
Maybe he could go to the mess, get some grub, then hide in his room so his men – specifically Fives – wouldn't be able to bother him.
Where the daring and brave clone captain of the 501st was currently at, Rex was unable to tell you.
Standing up, he claimed within the confinements of his own mind, that it was a tactically sound approach.
Until another knock on the door startled him out of his methodical planning.
Kriff, why won't people just leave him alone today?
Rex crossed over and slid the door open.
Fives.
Rex's blood pressure shot through the roof. The man opened his mouth, but for both their sakes, Rex shut the door before he could get a word in and walked away.
No. He refused. Simple as that.
Right now, was a good time for a refreshing sonic shower where he could properly compartmentalize his non-existent resentment and anger.
Forcing himself to breath in. Then out. Then in. The- Ahsoka does this too.
Rex groaned softly.
After the initial surprise wore off, the knocking began again. While the doors technically didn't lock, to enter someone's room unwelcome was something clones didn't do.
Especially when it was the Captain.
But when the knocking turned into pounded Rex had had enough.
Banging the door open, he snarled at the clone. "What?"
For one of the few times Rex had ever seen, Fives looked genuinely nervous.
As he should for hammering on my door. And messing around with Ahsoka.
"Captain, we need to talk."
"There is nothing to talk about," he grounded out.
Fives grunted. "With all due respect, sir, there definitely is. And we can do it right here, so that everyone in this corridor and the next can hear us, or you could let me in."
Knowing Fives, if he shut the door again, the man would start yelling at him through wall.
"Fine."
Turning around, Rex walked to stand by his bed, arms crossed, glaring at the clone as he shut the door behind him. He didn't speak, forcing Fives to wallow in silence.
Finally, he began. "Captain, I think there was a misunderstanding a little while ago in the barracks."
Rex remained silent. There was nothing to say.
Fives swallowed. "When the Commander," Rex scoffed at the formality of the title after he had seen Fives engage in a much more personal interaction with her. "Came to visit us, she pulled me aside to ask a question."
Rex couldn't move. If it was the one specific question that was critical for her not to know, then he wasn't sure he'd ever forgive himself for being so irresponsible for letting the name slip in the first place.
