"i don't know, fred. i've just been feeling down recently. it's weird. i don't know how to explain it. i just, i feel like i could do better, i always feel like i've let myself and other people down. especially you. i can handle letting myself down but you, fred weasley? no way"

"Y/N, you haven't let anyone down. especially not me. i'm always so proud of you. i'm proud of you when you turn up to a lesson. i'm proud of sloth when you actually eat something at dinner. every little thing you do, i always feel proud" fred smiled gently at the girl sitting next to him.

the pair of them sat at the top of the astronomy tower, the moonlight being the only reason they could see each other.

his eyes were soft as she started to talk about things that made her happy.

she spoke about music from the muggle world she grew up with, stories her parents would tell her, movies and tv shows she'd watched.

fred watched her as his best friend smiled at her memories.

he admired her smile, her gorgeous lips sitting gently on top of her teeth as she spoke.

she faced him, still talking.

"and moss got stuck in the arcade game! it's so fun-" she stopped, seeing his gentle eyes stare lovingly at her, "what?"

"nothing" he chuckled delicately, "you just look so beautiful when you talk about things you love"

she smiled, shyly hiding her face by turning to the moonlight.

"the moon lights your skin up perfectly, Y/N"

"fred, what are you talking about? you've been my best friend for six years!"

"yes, i have. and i've loved you for six years"

"what?"

"i love you"

his eyes locked with hers as they smiled.

"kiss me" fred whispered, leaning into her.

their lips collided as fred's dreams came true.

the moonlight barely shone through the gap in their faces, their left hands travelling through each other's hair.

their right hands cleaning on the floor to keep their balance.

they pulled away.

"fred" Y/N whispered, "i love you too"

they kissed again, Y/N finally feeling happy for the first time in months.
