Din's POV

Watching Varina get along with the sand people was really something to see. This was the moment I knew I was looking at a Queen. The way she was able to present herself to these people was nothing short of extraordinary. But I could tell she really didnt know that. She had everyone in this village wrapped around her finger and she wasn't taking it for granted.

I was sitting by myself cleaning one of my paldrons when Varina came over and sat next to me. with her drawing pad in her hand.

" A credit for your thoughts?" She asked me as she moved a little closer to me.

" You don't need to pay me for me to tell you." I said in a teasing manner.

" I just wanted to say thank you for all of this. I haven't been in the best of spirits, but somehow you know exactly what to do to make me feel better. They truly are wonderful people, once you get to know them."

"What can I say, beauty is everywhere, even in the most dire of circumstances."

She looked at me.

"you know I always used to say that when I was back home. Everyone told me that the galaxy was a brutal and evil place. But I never wanted to believe it. You have proven me right. I can't wait to show these to general ran, he is going to be so pissed when I tell him I got to meet sand people. "

Varina giggled. And I couldn't help but laugh with her.

"You know your General isn't so bad. He didn't kill me when I met him."

"Well, he is very good at his job. But he has changed a lot over the years. He lost his daughter at a very young age. And then his wife died of the same disease a couple of years later. He never spoke of his daughter, but Amelia, I knew her very well. He had never been the same since then."

"Loss affects us all in different ways." I looked at Varina. she was beautiful in the fires glow. she glanced at me.

"What is it?"

"Nothing I was just admiring your beauty that's all."

Varina slightly blushed.

"You think I'm beautiful."

"Well you are a lot of things, beautiful, kind, generous, humble. You have an amazing gift in art and somehow you were able to get everyone in this village to fall in love with you. You might not think your ready to be Queen, but I do."

Varina smiled graciously at me

"Everyone in the village?" Her eyes looked into the direction of my visor. I had realized what I had said. I knew she already had my heart a long time ago. But saying it out loud was very different.

"Yes, including me." I gently grabbed her hand. I knew that this was dangerous but I didn't care. I spoke very gently. I felt my heart beating out of my chest.

"Varina I-"

I was suddenly interrupted by a blaster shot, it came from the east. That's when I looked at Varina. She spoke first.

"The baby, we need to go back."

"Yeah, hopefully, Peli finished the ship"

We got back on the speeder and made our way to Mos Eisley. When we got to the hangar we were met with peli and the child being held at blaster point.

"Ah, Mando, it took you a while to come back. remember me."

It was the guy at the bar that I had declined a bounty from. Toro Callician

"Let them go rookie, or things might get ugly."

"Nah, Mando, I don't think you know what's going on here. Your a traitor of the Guild. And now you, the green thing and the princess are going to make me legendary. Now hand me the princess and I might not kill you."

I looked at Varina and she looked back with a panicked expression. I nodded at her to go to him, she did as I asked.

"Alright sweetheart, cuff him and I promise I'll go easy on you later." Toro gave her a disgusting smirk. He was not making this out alive, that was certain.

she walked over to me with the cuffs in her hands, that's when I showed her the flash detonator.

"your smarter than you look" she told me.

"Close your eyes." I whispered to her and she immediately did as I asked.

With that I activated the detonator and covered Varina as Toro shot blindly. She had taken out my blaster and shot him before I could do it myself. I looked at her in amazement. She just looked at me and shrugged.

"what? your not the only one that can impress."

Apparently not, I thought. I wasn't even going to say that I didnt find that attractive, cause it would be a lie.

Varina grabbed the kid from Peli as we said our thank you's and goodbyes as we headed back out to hyperspace.

"what do we do now Din?"

" I'm not sure, something will pop up sooner or later."

"Can we at least not go back to a sand planet. As pretty as it was, not my favorite substance."

I chuckled.

"Whatever you say Rina."
