the next day

matts pov

I woke up at 7:00 today shift started at 8:30. I roll over to gabby next to me, I roll over and put my arm around her not wanting to get up and then I say "good morning Beautiful" she rolls over facing me, and then she said "good morning to you too" "okay time to get up out of bed and get ready for shift" I say and get up out of bed and start to get ready when gabby gets up and comes behind me and hugs me and asks me "hey, what are we going to do with Sophie we have a double shift today and we can't leave her here all day by herself, but also she has school she has to do today?" she asks me. you can tell she was concerned with the recent events that happened she docent want to leave her by herself for a long time. I turn to look at her "hey look this is what we can do we go to work I can go ask the chef to see if right before lunch if I can go pick up Sophie and then she can come to the firehouse and spend the day with us and then right before bed me or you can go drop her off." "yeah that sounds like a good plan for me, oh and also she can make cookies for culinary arts and she can bring those with her too. she is going to love the firehouse." gabby said to relieved and excited you can tell by her voice. while I finish getting ready and making breakfast gabby goes and wakes the sleeping child and to get ready for the day and tells her what me and gabby talked about the firehouse and how to she might come to the station and how I will text her and let her know yes or no. we tell her are Final goodbyes and then me and gabby go to the firehouse.at the firehouseme and gabby go up the driveway and into the station and went to the common area when me and gabby spitted our separate ways. and I was off to chef Bodens office I knocked and I heard a "come in" he yelled. I walked into the office and closed the door behind me "what can I do for you Casey" he asked, "hey chef I was just wounding if it would be alright if I could go pick up Sophie right before lunch so she could come to the station meet everyone and hang out and then me go drop her back off at my house." I asked him. "Casey that is perfectly fine with me as long as when the bells go off she stays out of the way. but other than that I am fine with having her here if she's your family that makes her our family." he tells me. "thank you, chef, that's all I needed to ask you" I tell him and he said "okay then." then I get up and leave his office and I go find gabby to tell her. Her and Brett were stoking the ambo for this shift. when she saw me "hey matt what can I help you with" she said to me "well I just wanted to tell you I got the green light from the chef so I will pick her up before lunch. so I am now going to go let her know what is happening." "okay good, well I will see you in a little while." she said and as I am walking off I can hear Brett say "gabby was he just saying how Sophie came to the firehouse" "yah that's what he was talking about". then I went to go get my phone to call Sophie.

sophies pov

my mom woke me up this morning and I got up got dressed and got ready for the day and like every day did my PT and my treatment and changed my feeding tube so it all ready for the day and I normally do this while listening to my teachers lecture about there class. and I am so happy that I only have certain teachers that do online classes that I have to be in class for but I like it. so it's about 9:00 now and I am getting ready for culinary arts today we are making cookies. by the time I am out of class I am still making cookies because we only get 20ish minutes because she has in-person class so I put on some music and keep making cookies and I am just doing some school work for some other class until my next class is Orchestra at 9:50 by then the cookies are done and I have 10 minutes to spare. when I get a call from dad "hey dad what's up?" "Hey kiddo, I was just wounding if you still wanted to come to hang at the firehouse around lunchtime you can meet everyone but you would just have to stay out of the way." "yes, can I? I would love to. I can't wait, oh and by the way, I am almost done with all my school work so. what time should I be ready to leave and is mom or you picking me up?" "I am and around 11:30 I will be there and I am glad to hear about your school oh and your mom said to bring some of those cookies when I pick you up to get you. well I will let you go because you have Orchestra and I will see you soon, talk soon love you Soph." okay love you dad see you soon and stay safe." after I got off the phone I went to my last class of the day and then I just have to do some paperwork for school while I was in my Break for my class so I just have to write an essay on what has been the biggest challenge for you in your life or what has happened that changed your life. after a couple of minutes my alarm went off to remind me about Orchestra, so before I go upstairs I check to make sure the cookies are out and the oven off. and then after class, I go back downstairs to bag the cookies and I take a break from doing everything when I start to have a coughing fit when I see the time it 10:20 am. I still sorta needed to get ready- like for me, I need to go get my bag ready to go so that includes of (by the way this is my version of what I would bring with me, just to let everyone know.) - extra supplies so like a feeding tube, feeding bag, the feeding formula, IV flushes and my charger for my pump and some other quick grab and go things and I grab my phone and a book and my computer. Dad told me if I would go for lunch I would just have to get what I needed to get what I would need for a little while because my dad would have to drop me back off around bedtime. and then I heard the door open...
