The dim sunlight licked the beige color curtains and tickled my eyelids until they opened, the bright rays blinding me for the moment until my pupils adjusted to the lighting. I groaned for a moment, rolling over and I ended up falling straight onto my back. My eyes widened as I gasped, clearly awake now.

I must have slept walked over to my bed later that night, or perhaps you came back in and tucked me inside.

“Dammit…” I sat up, elevating myself with one palm flat on the recently vacuumed carpet floor while the other hand rubbed my aching temple. Finally deciding to stand up, I walked to the curtains and flung them open, blinding myself with the bright white light.

The city was bustling down there with cars as the fog lifted off the city, opening its eyes to the new day. From a distance, I saw busybodies pacing furiously to work with their Starbucks in one hand and their cell phones in the other, ready for the new workday. Opening the sliding glass doors, I walked onto the balcony and took in the stench of exhaust pipes and rotting intelligence. With a long sigh, I rubbed my face and went back inside, stomach growling.

“It’d probably be best if you eat ma’am.” I jumped at this voice before realizing that it was only you. With a low growl, I punched your arm. You didn’t move much.

“You scared me! Don’t do that!” I clenched my jaw a little before relaxing, sighing once more. “Jesus Christ… What do you want Roivas?”

“Just wanted to make some breakfast for you—I felt bad for having to leave you last night.” You frowned a little before smiling at me, bowing slightly. “May I escort you to the kitchen Miss Montero?”

I blushed, taking your hand in a gentle hold and you walked me over to the kitchen, where I saw various foods on the table. Taking a whiff of it, I could smell pancakes, bacon, waffles, syrup, scrambled eggs, some fruits and some juices. I swallowed thickly as my mouth began to water. “How long did this take you?”

“Not long,” you leaned your hip against the counter, arms crossed. You thought about it for a moment. “Probably… maybe… twenty minutes?” You yawned and held out a fork to me. I took it slowly, watching your gaze as you followed mine. “You should probably eat before the food gets cold, it’d be such a waste if it got cold.” You pouted lightly and I rolled my eyes.

“Okay, okay.” I said, sitting myself down so that I was among the sea of food. Grabbing an empty plate, I got a little bit of everything just to make you feel good about yourself. It must have worked because you stood a little straighter until you heard a knock on the door.

“Oh sweetheart!” Nikolay said in a singsong tone from the other side of the door, “I got a message for you!”

You rolled your eyes and let out a sigh, walking over to the door and opening it just a crack. “What do you want?”

Nikolay’s voice lowered, “It’s about the mission.”

I took a bite of my waffles as you looked over at me, “I’ll be back, okay? Nikolay and I have to talk about work for a little bit.”

I swallowed, then smiled. “Okay.”

You faked a smile back before disappearing behind the other side of the door.

I frowned and looked down at my food, taking my time to finish it. It was probably twenty minutes and you still hadn’t come back.

“Roivas…” I whispered.

Tiptoeing over to the door, I pressed my ear up against it, hoping that I could pick up on what they were discussing.

I couldn’t hear anything.
