As we stepped out of the jet, Shaw's little army was already waiting for us.
Havok fired his laser straight at the mutant with the wind powers, but the attack barely slowed him.
In the blink of an eye, another mutant appeared behind Hank and Alex—then vanished, taking them both with him.
"Come on!" Erik called, and we sprinted for the submarine. He used his powers to rip the hatch open and sent the wind mutant flying with a sharp twist of metal. We didn't hesitate, diving into the sub.
"Erik, Y/n, make for the middle of the vessel," Charles said in our earpieces. "That's the point my mind can't penetrate. We have to assume that's where Shaw is."
We moved fast through the narrow corridors, every step echoing against the cold metal walls.
"That's the nuclear reactor. Disable it," Charles instructed.
Erik focused, metal grinding under his control as the reactor's flow of energy cut out. Then a sealed door hissed and opened.
"You're there. You've reached the void," Charles confirmed.
"He's not here, Charles. Shaw's not here—he's left the sub," Erik said, frustrated.
"We'll find him," you said quickly, placing a hand on Erik's arm.
"What? He's got to be there. There's nowhere else he can be. Keep looking!" Charles insisted, his voice rising in panic.
"And we're telling you he's not!" you snapped.
"There's no one here, goddammit!" Erik shouted—
You suddenly noticed movement behind him.
"Erik, look behind you!" you yelled.
Erik turned. Shaw was standing in the doorway.
"Erik. What a pleasant surprise," he said with a smirk. "Y/n, it's nice to meet you too."
You narrowed your eyes. "How do you know me?"
"You were all over the news after those three girls were attacked—by your hands," he said coldly. "You disappeared right after. I've been watching you for a long time."
Your hands lit up with glowing blue energy. Erik stepped toward him.
"So good to see you again, Erik," Shaw continued.
The door slammed shut behind us. Mirrors lined the walls—his trap.
"May I ask you something?" Shaw said. "Why are you on their side? Why fight for a doomed race who will hunt us down the second they feel threatened?"
Erik lunged at him—but Shaw's face distorted strangely, and Erik's punch phased right through him.
"I'm sorry for what happened in the camp. I truly am," Shaw said, almost sounding sincere. "And I'm sorry for the girls who hurt you, Y/n."
