Sheikh

Why was Tara drifting into a loveless marriage? I'd seen a drunk Ajay blubbering his worries away to a bar tender and couldn't help but listen in. He was a sweet guy, known him since our school days. Shreyas liked to grumble that he was 'too perfect'. Goodlooks, smart, and from a rich family. Why would Tara chose to give up on her perfect boyfriend, whom she loved very much, and chose to go with my friend?

Not that Shreyas, isn't a great guy. But those two would rather murder each other then spend a few minutes together but their actually going to go get married?

Their situations are difficult, but it isn't that bad. At least not for Tara. Her brown eyes stared back at me with a raised eyebrow, "Sheikh, I'm not changing my mind."

"Alright, I'll go tell Ajay that then." I stood up, dusting my pants seemingly disinterested, but my gaze was glued onto her reaction. Instantly her face morphed into one of hope and sheer joy, but then I saw the sickening heartbreak in her eyes. Within seconds her gaze differed to a neutral one, "He's here?"

I nodded briefly, Ajay stood outside far off in the parking lot jittery as hell. He chewed on his nails, pacing back and forth. Tara rose to her feet and without even glancing at me ordered me, "Tell him to leave, please and thank you."

With that, and a swish of her skirt she left the room. Screw this

I marched towards her retreating figure with anger blooming in my chest, "Who do you think you are? A man's going mad trying to just talk to you! What the actual hell, Tara? Any respect I had for you has gone down the drain."

I inhaled to continue my onslaught but Shreyas stepped in smoothly, "Sheikh, calm down. I understand your point but you have to hear hers too. She saw Ajay with another girl, why would she want to speak to him."

"If she can make a deal, so can I." Another voice enjoined our conversation. Ajay stood in his full height, his eyes sunken and exhausted along with his rumpled clothing. He looked at Tara dead in the eye and spoke, "It's just a deal, Tara."

At that moment, Tara Patel broke.

But not a single tear slid down her eyes, she simply turned to Shreyas and looked at Ajay with the corner of her eyes, "Right, and so this."

Leaning, she pressed her lips against Shreyas's.

This can be a pretty good soap opera...

Shreyas didn't react, but Ajay did. He turned around, gathering the shattering pieces of his heart and left the building. Shreyas pushed her away by the shoulders with a raised eyebrow. Awkward silence followed which I needed to break.

"Lipstick suits you, Shreyas"
