SHREYAS
Tara was avoiding me.
Although she tried her hardest to disguise it in work-related excuses, she couldn't. There are only so many times Varun needs to know how to handle 'the new investor' till he learns. Varun certainly didn't need her to show him eight times on the same day.
Not when he was posting pictures of himself on vacation on his story.
Quietly, I slipped back into the house. A loud retching sound echoed through the empty house, the light was on in the bathroom. It was Tara.
The noise of the flush was next, then her entering the living room to turn the lights on. The moment she stepped into the spacious and sparsely decorated living room, her eyes locked on me. "Shreyas." She greeted curtly.
"Why were you vomiting?" I hummed, back turned while I took off the jogging shoes that Sheikh had gifted me. The silence was the only response received till I repeated the question again, "Why were you vomiting, Tara?"
A sigh broke off her lips, she sat beside me on the black sofa. Never looking at me, "Shreyas, I'm pregnant. Pregnant people tend to get morning sickness."
Thank whichever god that made me sit on the sofa. I would have felt if I was standing. My neck nearly sprained at the speed I turned to look at her. She reached and sipped water from the cold water bottle I'd bring on jogs.
"Tara. What?" I could only imagine how I looked when I stared at her. "But we never-"
"Ah, but me and Ajay did." She responded softly.
"Oh," The hollow answer I forced out didn't measure the shock she'd given me.
"Does he-" I started, she cut it off with a sharp nod. I felt like a fool, all along I'd hoped that somewhere she'd realize that I could be that person who felt like home to her. She already had a home, Ajay. Not only that, she had a damn child.
"I'm not going back to him." She told me between more sips of water. Once again, I almost slipped off the couch. She had this tendency to deliver shock after shock, it felt like my heart had gone into a cardiac arrest and she was shocking it back to life. Repeatedly, every time increasing in insanity. First, it was her turning up and offering to marry me. Then she told me she was selling the company, only after she told me it was to Varun. Once again, she's pregnant with Ajay's child. What was next, I could only wonder.
"Why not?" I cleared my throat, taking the bottle from her and setting it on the table. She snatched it right back, "Unless you want me to puke again, I need some more water."
Oh. Scrambling off the couch, I fetched her another bottle from the fridge. The squeaking of my socks echoed from the marbled flooring of the kitchen to the living room. A slight smile tugged at her lips, "Thank you, Shreyas."
I nodded stupidly. She finally turned to face me. "It wouldn't be right to go back to him if I didn't feel the same as he did."
"Feel?" I pressed on, light embers of hope lighting in me.
"Shreyas, don't make me say it." Turning away, her eyes trained on the kitchen. A grin curled at my lips. "Tara, I don't understand what you saying."
"Okay." She shrugged, starting to get up from the couch. Panic clutched me as I reached for her and pulled her back down to the couch. "Shreyas-"
"Just say it for me."
"I'm not saying I am falling for you, it's that my feelings for Ajay aren't that strong anymore." She mumbled. I finished it for her, "But you feel something for me."
"Something." She agreed. It was then I realized I had a question for her.
"What about the baby?"
