Tara Patel
I stared at the clock, the minutes ticking by agonizingly slowly. another relative of mine applied turmeric on my cheek. I sighed softly, this haldi was taking forever. And I was probably going to smell like an Indian spices box for the rest of the month.
Occasionally someone handed us a gift, which we then passed to Shreyas's sister, who placed it behind the curtains along with the slowly forming pile of presents. The sun dipped under the clouds, and the guests slowly began piling out. My mind wandered to Shreyas, and where he was.
I heard his footsteps before I saw him, "Tara."
I didn't even stop, without missing a beat, I made a beeline for my car. "Tara, are you seriously running?"
"Fine then," His chuckles rung in my ears as I heard his footsteps closer as he closed in on me. His slender fingers slid around my wrist as he tugged me to his chest, I squinted up at him as the chandelier above us was partially blinding me. I was by any means, no short woman, but still I had to crane my neck. "Why'd you kiss me?"
I paused for a second as my brain worked in over drive, "Cause you had my cigarettes, and you didn't look like you were giving them back."
"It's called distraction, Iyer." I snorted, wrenching my hand away. He raised an eyebrow, and I scoffed, "Don't worry, I'm not developing any feelings."
"Oh?" His lips quirked up, "We'll see about that."
"Also, my dear fiancée, I've been selected for test team." He added, a genuine smile reformed the frown on my face. "Congrats, I guess our idea is working."
"Most definitely, no one is going to believe Priya when her main witness, Sheikh, is on our side and more over, who's going to believe her when I have a wife?" He flashed me a grin, my stomach fluttered slightly as I forced the feeling away. He's just cute, any person would find it attractive when a cute person smiles at them, no feelings involved.
"Right," I cleared my throat, and hurried into the car. He waved goodbye, Varun in drivers seat, kept his eyes glued to me. "You alright? Your a bit flushed."
I shrugged, unable to meet his eyes. I closed my eyes and chanted in my head, Ajay, think about Ajay. Your in love with him, you dork!
