Shreyas Iyer

Flashback

I sighed, glancing around my new school. I'd moved closer to the cricket ground to be able to practice more. But moreover, I knew no one here. I saw a dorky little girl arguing with a group of guys holding a cricket bat venomously, she seemed to be threatening them, and a somewhat taller kid was trying to break up the fight. Intrigued, I stepped forward to listen in.

"-Ajay, I swear, let me hit him! It was a wide, Hrithik is a horrible umpire!" The girl shrieked, Ajay patted her head and turned to another guy with a scuffed-up pair of sneakers, "Is that she said true?"

"NO! AJAY BHAIYA, I'M A VERY GOOD BOWLER, I'M LIKE KAPIL DEV!" The boy insisted loudly, I stepped forward shyly, "Um, I saw him bowl the wide.."

Ajay, was a tall and two years elder student, he glanced between us. "Fine, Tara. Your right."

She looked away from the older boy with a 'hurruph', she grabbed my hand and yelled over her shoulder, "I have a new best friend!"

I followed behind her, dazed and confused. We grew up relatively quickly, Tara always stuck by me but I'd made a new friend, Sheikh, he was Tara's neighbor. Tara's other best friend, Priya, also stuck to our little group. Time flew by too quickly, suddenly from an awkward nine year old I went to an infamous cricket player in tenth standard. As we grew, so did Tara's beauty and brains. People stopped by to ogle her, and she got more than a few cat calls.

I didn't really like that, she was basically my adopted twin sister. "Oi, Hrithik, eyeballs away from Tara." I chucked a piece of paper at him as I saw drool over her. Sheikh rested his head on my desk, "Do you like her or something?"

"Nope," I answered instantly, Sheikh grinned, "Then why do you have a problem with us checking her out?"

"Behen hai teri." I snorted, folding my hands together. I heard Tara's voice before I saw her, "I'm four months older than you two. How am I the younger sister?"

"Because you are," I responded, unable to think of a adequate remark. She rolled her eyes in her usual manner. "I have to talk to you,"

She lead me away to behind the building, looked at me square in the eye and said, "I like you."

"What-?" I jerked backwards, baffled. "I like you," She repeated patiently.

I shook my head, "Sorry. Your like my little sister, I don't have any romantic feelings for you."

"Okay," She nodded, and left. She seemed to take the rejection very well. But all of that was cancelled when she didn't show up to school the next day. And a week later, I find out she's going to some smart private academy.

I guess she holds a grudge
