It had been days since hero's disappearance and Alfred wasn't doing to well. He spends most of his time looking for hero. He had abandoned his work and sleep to look for his feline friend. It had come to the point where Alfred would some times pass out while looking. He had called the shelters and even went into town to loom for him. Alfred was loosing it, he was worried and he knew that at this point something bad must of happened to hero.
Currently he was sitting next to hero's food dish, staring at it. He would sometimes imagine that hero was there eating but then he would blink his eyes and hero would be anywhere in sight. He kept his open trying not to blink while waiting for his cat to appear. He could feel his stomach rumbled with hunger, his head would spin because of the lack of sleep. He stared at hero's food. He was tempted. He stood up deciding to go back out and look. He went outside and walked through the woods. Looking in the usual places.
While walking around he stopped near a bush where he smelled something horrible, he knew that smell, it was the smell of something rotting. He walked towards the bush pushing aside the leaves. He stepped back his hand going to his mouth as he let out a deep breath. There was hero's body. It was obvious that hero was attacked, he could tell from the bite marks and scratches. He kneeled down picking up the mangled corpse. He held it close to him, whispering apologize to it. He pet the matted fur as he walked back to his house. He walked in taking hero with him. He looked for a box, never once setting hero down.
When he finally found one he put a blanket in it before setting hero on top of it. He put the lid on the box. He let tears fall down his face. He went out side taking the box with him. He wen over near a tree in his back yard that had rose bushes surroundings it. He went and got his shovel and started on a hole. He dug for an hour. Once it was six feet deep he climbed out and grabbed hero's 'coffin' he set it in the hole. He stared at it with tear filled yet dead eyes. He felt horrible. This was his fault, he promised to take care of hero and protect him and yet here he is dead.
He always failed at protecting anyone. He couldn't do anything right. Shaking his head, he looked at the grave, there was no time to feel self pity, this was about hero. He sat on the ground and told hero's corpse that he was sorry, sorry that he couldn't protect him and that he wasn't there for him. After a few minutes he stood and began to fill the hole. He stood there for so long afterwards. Letting out a sigh he made his way to his garage and put away his shovel, he then went and grabbed some boards from a small pile. He then went to work making a small grave cross for hero, even tho he wasn't religious he saw it as a way of respect. He stabbed it into the ground at the head of the grave and went into his house.
He didn't feel like doing anything. He laid on the bed and held one of hero's toys. His grip was tight, he was holding it like a life line. He laid for hours and he some how managed to relax his body. After so long of not sleeping or eating his body couldn't handle being awake any longer. His conscious faded. He fell into a dream world.
He was standing in the bathroom. Looming over a blood filled sink. He looked down at his arms and saw that they were unharmed at least this time. He wondered what was going on. Suddenly a noise interrupted his thinking, he turned and made his way out of the bathroom. The entire house was bright and decorated with flowers and colored crystals. Alfred felt oddly comforted by this. He followed the noise and found himself in the kitchen. He saw hero eating out of his bowl. Alfred smiled.
"Hero?" The cat turned to look at who the concerned voice came from. Alfred watched as the cat meowed and went up to Alfred. He knelt and lifted hero. Hero nudged his face against Alfred who petted and hugged him. Hero then jumped out of Alfred's arms and onto the floor. He then ran outside and Alfred gave chase. He ran into some bushes which Alfred recognized as where he buried hero. Alfred stopped. Hero crept out of the bushes and sat infront of Alfred, who was tearing up.
"You shouldn't blame yourself, it was the predators fault not Your's." Hero made eye contact with Alfred. He didn't make a sound but Alfred heard anyway, the voice was blasting through his head. What? How?
"Alfred don't be sorry, I know you feel bad, you regret not being there, but you can't be sorry." Hero's tail was slightly waging side to side behind him. "Do you know that I saw everything, I know what you've been doing to yourself, what you've been doing since you brought me home. I know You're hurting and that's perfectly fine. It's normal to hurt, but you can't let that destroy you." Hero went up to Alfred and placed his paw on his foot. "I thank you for taking care of me, as well as for loving me, you were the only owner I had and although our time together was short lived, I will always cherish it. I will always be with you my dear owner, always in your heart. Now I must be going to my new home where I'll be waiting for you, goodbye for now. After that the cat disappeared.
Alfred shot up out of bed as his alarm went off. What the hell. He was confused yet comforted. He didn't know what exactly happened, but he knew that it was good. He knew that hero forgave him and he realized he needed to forgive himself. He laid back, he also noticed out of the corner of his eye a pair of blue feline eyes staring at him, they were only there for a second but he new that hero would be with him until he joined him in the after life.
