Chapter 1

General POV

In the conference room of the BAU, you could see Hotch, Garcia, and JJ standing over one file. With their faces all displaying different emotions, Hotch had confusion splayed across his which was spectacularly strange seeing as he only has one facial expression, Garcia looked ecstatic, and JJ well no one had ever seen her happier.

Reid asked the other team members watching from the bullpen, "What do you think they are talking about in there? I've never seen JJ so happy" with his voice laced with confusion and curiosity.

Meanwhile, in the conference room, Hotch had asked JJ and Garcia to look into the new agent that they were getting. This transfer had both Hotch and Strauss confused because neither one of them knew where she was getting transferred from, only that it was classified and required ridiculously high-security clearance, which they didn't have. And that whoever transferred her was even above Strauss' boss. Which led to many questions and made them think either this agent pulled strings or she had another purpose than just being an agent on this team.

Hotch's POV

I couldn't help but be concerned with this transfer, it says her mother is an Ambassador.. who I worked for but never even knew that she had a daughter so that sounds like a nice childhood full of neglect... so maybe that's how she got the transfer. But Strauss reminds me that this transfer Emily Prentiss, 1) doesn't even speak to her mother, at least according to Strauss' friend that has worked with the ambassador for years, and 2) from everything we've seen in her file and from what we heard from her instructors from the Academy when she attended, Emily Prentiss hates politics with a passion.

Emily Prentiss was supposedly starting with us tomorrow, so I did the only logical thing I could think of, I asked Garcia and JJ to find out anything and everything they could about her. But I found something out that I would have never guessed beforehand.

JJ's POV

I was getting ready to leave for the day when I saw Pen and Hotch in the conference room and he called me in

Hotch: "JJ can you come here for a minute"

JJ: "Sure what do you need"

Hotch: "We're getting a new agent tomorrow and I would like for you guys to find out a little about her"

Yes, I thought it myself we could use another girl on this team, after all, it was only me and Pen. But I was also confused because Hotch just told us and normally I would've at least been told in advance. And normally with transfers, I was asked to go over their file before Hotch approved it.

JJ: "Sure"

Pen: "Ok"

I took the file eagerly from Hotch only to have a giant smile fill my face when I saw the name, only for Pen to have the same reaction.

"What?" Hotch asks confused

I didn't have time to answer him before my phone rang, only to once more be surprised. I answer it and put them on speaker.

Garcia's POV

I was packing my things up from our last case in the conference room, and I couldn't help but think of my raven-haired beauty, who I could've sworn I saw in the hallway a couple of floors up. However she looked like she had been here for days, I hope she can get home soon, whether she's who I thought she was or not.

But my thought bubble popped as soon as JJ and Hotch walked in, and JJ shot me a look silently asking if I knew what Hotch wanted.

He then told us we were getting a new agent and I was thrilled, because we needed another girl on this team, and as much as I love JJ we haven't had a real girls' night since a couple of weeks after we graduated from the academy, when Em was sent on that stupid assignment.

It's been 3 years since that happened and god, I'm so worried about Em she hasn't been able to contact or see us since she left, and I hope she's ok but I have a feeling all those birthday and Christmas presents that show up every year are from her. And before I can spiral JJ's smile pulls me out of my thoughts.

And then I saw it. It was Em's file and I can't help the giant smile from spreading on my face, Hotch being confused asked us "what". And before I could answer her face popped up on JJ's phone. And it was safe to say I was ecstatic, but concerned because if I was right then Em hasn't slept in days and that worried me because quite frankly that woman looked like crap.

Emily's POV

Finally, I think to myself as I leave my last meeting/debriefing for the assignment I just had. I didn't like my last/only assignment with that team but I was already too deep in before I realized what they wanted me to do so I couldn't back out unless I wanted to die. It was a joint op with the FBI, CIA, & Interpol and I didn't know any better besides from the fact they've been trading me for this since I was 18. And to say I was relieved it was over was an understatement. But even then I couldn't wait for my transfer because even after the case ended it's been non-stop meetings and debriefings even on the plane I haven't eaten, slept, or even had anything but a coffee or two when I was lucky in the past 48 hours.

And that's when it hit me. I haven't called JJ or Pen since I got back and I just want to see them, especially JJ. She's my best friend. And as much as I want to go home, I have to tell them I'm being transferred to their team and I'm so excited I can't wait for tomorrow. So I call JJ first hoping she's still awake because it's kind of late only to be surprised when I hear Pen with her too.
