I watched as Callie stormed off screaming obscenities at me.
She had every right to. I had lied to us both. She knew it by looking at me. As she stripped teased for me, my mind was on the newcomers big hazel eyes. My wolf recognized this human princess as my mate. My family knew that Callie was not my true mate and yet I denied it every step of the way. I wanted to will it true but by denying it, it only hurt Callie further.
I was an asshole. To Callie and especially the princess. I didn't even know her name.
A knock came from my door. I groaned internally before answering it.
It was Asher. My younger brother had just turned 18 he was a man but would not fully bond with his wolf until 21. He was carefree and sweet unlike me. He was the wisest of my family. He always knew when we needed advice.
I smiled, happy to see him, I stepped aside allowing him in.
"You always know don't you?" I joked.
"Know what brother?" He returned feigning ignorance of my situation.
I had already accepted the role of alpha on my 21st birthday after my first transition but once I was married I would accept the crown and make Asher my senior advisor. He will be the youngest ever in the position. But that was just a number, I trusted no one more than him.
"Well, what advice have you come to give me?"
For his merit Asher pretended to concentrate but we both knew his advice was at the ready.
"Do I really need to tell you what to do Damon? I saw Callie run out of here cursing you to hell. She's your mate isn't she? The princess Akira?"
Akira. Her name. I liked the sound of it.
I sat next to Asher on the couch and dropped my head into my hands. I nodded before returning his stare.
"The moon has cursed me Asher, she's a human!"
"You dare question the moon brother? To deny your true mate is to deny yourself. You know that. You knew Callie wasn't your mate and you continued to deny yourself. And here you are hurting yourself and two others because of your stubbornness."
"I know! I know! What do I do now Ash?"
"I shouldn't have to tell you but because I know you're both stubborn and dense I will!"
Asher smiled at my deadpan stare.
"Go find her. Get to know her. She's scared, in a new place and has found herself unknowingly surrounded by creatures of myth."
My brother was right. He always was. He saw what I could not so often. I couldn't wait to meet his wolf. Often they were a reflection of us while having bits of the person we could be. If we were shy our wolf would brave. I looked forward to moonlit runs with my brother one day but first I needed to meet this princess.
Asher and I spoke for a few minutes more before he left me to think.
I showered again to get the smell of the she-wolf off me. I didn't want any reminders of Callie and how I hurt her right now. I would find time to apologize later. The shower was quick and I put on near the same outfit as I wore earlier. I rarely dressed differently.
I left my room to locate the princess. I saw Liana head towards the garden and I followed her knowing she couldn't resist finding the princess to meet her and talk her ear off no doubt. I watched from the shadows for a few moments. It gave me a minute to admire the princess.
She was petite in stature definitely shorter than myself werewolves tended to be on the taller size. Even she wolfs we're tall. It was hard to see the shape of her body through the dress she wore. It was not suitable for a princess more like her staff. But that was not my business how the neighboring country dressed their woman in shapeless gowns and baggy clothes.
