I knew Callie was on the guest list I had just hoped she wouldn't show. But she thrived off of attention more than food and air probably. I needed to tell Kira that I was sorry for my behavior and that we hadn't been together since I met her.

As she hugged me and attempted to play coy by touching me, the only thought that came to mind was how I ever thought that we could be true mates. She was shallow. With a beauty only money could buy. So unlike Kiras natural beauty. In the last few days I realized that for the last year, Callie did nothing more for me but keep me warm at night. The countless arguments I had lying to myself, my wolf and my family that we could be true mates.

My wolf was beside himself with joy at my realization.

Kira had excused herself right after meeting Callie and I needed to find her. She had been gone too long and I hadn't had a chance to escape before to explain things to her. But how do I explain to a complete stranger that she's marrying a mythical creature? And that I know without a doubt that she is the one to complete me. All the thoughts swirled around my mind. This was definitely not going to be easy.

I took a chance hoping Kira had headed to the ladies room. Callie was just stepping out of the restroom, her smile was smug and she winked as she sashayed past me. Fuck. That look was always trouble with her. As Callie disappeared into the party, out walked Kira from the ladies room. Her eyes were pink and her cheeks were puffy. A tell tale sign there had been crying. She smiled wide at me.

"I'm so sorry Damon. I've never been to such a big party before I felt overwhelmed."

So she was going to play it off. Ok. I'd play along for now but I didn't want to continue being a cause for her secret tears. I took her by the hand and brought her body alongside my own before moving back through crowd vowing to not let that hand go for the rest of the night.

The party was in full swing. Everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves immensely. Kira was by my side, Callie had disappeared. Thank god. It seemed like the night was finally going right.

I wanted to spend time alone with her while our guests continued to party. But my subjects had other plans and chanted for us to dance.

Kira's cheeks reddened as they always did when she was on the spot. But I smiled big before leading her to the dance floor.

I turned to her, aching to bring her small figure closer to mine.

I wanted to repeat the moment in her room.
When I saw her in her dress I couldn't help but feel her body against mine. I saw what was hidden behind that baggy clothes. And it was...well it was enough that she probably felt my arousal.

I brought myself back to the moment at hand and intertwined our fingers and wrapped my arm around her waist bringing her body flush against mine again. I could hear her heart starting to race and I couldn't deny mine was too. My wolf was absolutely jumping for our joy at our closeness. They played a sweet melody and we started to move.

"I'm not a very good dancer, Damon."

Her blush had returned again.

"Just follow my lead then" I smiled hoping to sound suave.

The crowd around us clapped as we twirled around and I heard a few hollers, no doubt that was Xander. Then the floor filled with dancing couples slowly.

With the dance floor crowded with couples now, I winked at Kira and started to turn us in circles through the crowd. After a few inconspicuous spins I released her body from my grip, sadly, but kept our hands intertwined.
