Kyoko woke with a start to the smell of her mother's cooking, her sister curled up next to her, hugging her arm.

"What's going on?" Kyoko breathed.

"Kyoko, are you awake?" her father asked through the closed door.

"Yeah, morning dad." Kyoko gently shook her sister off and stood up.

My family's supposed to be dead. she thought with a frown.

"The directors visited last night, things have certainly been a lot better lately." her father said after letting himself in.

He rested a hand on her long red hair. Warm... she thought, if this was a dream, she hoped she never woke up.

"Kyoko, are you alright?" her father asked worriedly.

Kyoko blinked and smiled brightly.

"I'm good, still half asleep I guess." Kyoko laughed.

Her father chuckled. "Well, you're going to be late for school."

"School?" Kyoko repeated, she didn't go to school, even when her family was still alive.

Her father stared curiously at her. "The directors are paying for your schooling, and you insisted on going to Mitakihara, remember?"

Kyoko rubbed her face. "I... yeah, must've been my dream, it felt so real."

Her father tilted his head, interested.

"God gave us a miracle, and you..." Kyoko swallowed hard. "You..." she shook her head and went to get her uniform.

"Kyoko!" her father cried, wondering if he should be worried.

"It's okay, it was just a dream, besides that'll never happen, why would we need a miracle anyway?" Kyoko asked.

Her father smiled, satisfied with her dodge, he didn't need to know he committed a murder/suicide due to the 'miracle'.

"Dad, what's the date today?" Kyoko asked suddenly.

Her father stared at her in confusion. "First of April."

Kyoko nodded her thanks.

Her father nodded back and left, letting her get dressed.

Mami! Kyoko called telepathically, if her family was still alive, hopefully that meant she and Mami were still friends.

Kyoko...? Mami's voice, even through telepathy, sounded shaken.

Let's meet up, there's something I need to tell you. Kyoko sent.

And I you. Was all Mami said.

Kyoko's father ended up walking her to school; wanting to show her the route while also having stuff he needed to do in Mitakihara.

"So, Mami goes to this school too?" her father asked.

Kyoko nodded.

"She'll be a grade above me though, so we won't be in the same class." Kyoko grumbled, upset about that fact.

Her father just smiled.

"Well, be sure to make lots of friends, I'll be expecting a few over for dinner this weekend." he ordered.

Kyoko blinked in surprise, a few people from her 'dream' coming to mind.

"Does Mami count?" she asked hopefully.

"Mami's always welcome, but I'd like to see some new friends." he answered sternly.

Kyoko turned away, grumbling about him 'asking the impossible', when she noticed a few familiar girls.

"Do you know them?" her father asked, following her gaze.

"I've... seen them around." Kyoko answered hesitantly.

"Then go talk to them." her father said, nudging her in their direction.

"Dad!" Kyoko snapped.

"You've barely any friends Kyoko," he pointed out.

"I talk to people after your sermons." Kyoko said defensively.

"Your age? And you keep in touch?" Kyoko sulked and spared the girls another glance.

"Fine!" Kyoko sighed, throwing her hands up in defeat and going over.

"See you after school!" her father called after her.

Sayaka had woken up to the lingering memories of warm red and violins playing something she didn't recognise; it was deep, depressing, and sounded like opera.

"What are you humming Sayaka?" Madoka asked as they walked to school, the pinkette wearing purple ribbons instead of red.

"Dunno, it's been stuck in my head all morning." Sayaka admitted.

"It's... a little creepy," Madoka said.

"Sorry, I'll try to stop." Sayaka promised.

"Did you know we're getting a new student?" Madoka asked.

Sayaka hummed.

"Hitomi told me, some girl from Tokyo, right?" she asked.

"Apparently she has a heart condition so she's been in the hospital for months," Madoka explained.

"Wonder what she's like," Sayaka said. "Oh! There's another girl too, from Kazamino, I think."

"Yeah," the pinkette confirmed.

"Hey, mind if I join you? My dad's been bugging me about making friends." a red haired girl asked.

The two turned, Madoka instantly recognising her, while Sayaka was just left wondering where she'd seen the girl before.

"Sure." Madoka was quick to agree.

"Are you a ninth grader?" Sayaka asked. "I feel like I've seen you before."

"Nah, it's my first day." the girl answered.

"Oh! Are you that girl from Kazamino?" Sayaka asked.

"Yep, I'm Kyoko Sakura." she said, sticking her hand out.

Sayaka noticed something in her hand and shook it. "I'm Sayaka, and this is Madoka."

When Sayaka let go of her hand, she was holding a hairclip.

"Wow..." she breathed.

It was gold, and shaped like a fortissimo, when she looked up, Kyoko was rubbing her neck.

"I found it by my house," Kyoko explained. "I can give it to someone else if you don't want it."

"No!" Sayaka cried, holding it close. "It's great, thanks um, Kyoko."

"S-Sure, look, I know I said I'd walk with you guys, but I gotta go." Kyoko ran off, face bright red.

"That was nice of her." Madoka said, voice distant.

Sayaka turned to find Madoka watching Kyoko go with an odd look, like she knew the girl.

"Yeah..." Sayaka agreed.

"We should hurry, or we'll be late." Madoka said, running on ahead.

"Hey, wait up Madoka!" Sayaka cried, chasing after her.
