Homura walked into the classroom, usually with a stride that gave her a mysterious vibe, today though she was tense, reminding her of how she used to be; when she fidgeted and stumbled over her words a lot.
Waking up wearing Madoka's ribbons had been quite the scare, though it did make her wonder what happened in the last timeline.
What also surprised her was Kyoko entering the classroom before her, usually she was the only transfer student, so there was definitely something going on.
"I'm Homura Akemi, I'm very pleased to meet you." Homura said to the class.
As Ms. Saotome spoke, Homura glanced around the classroom, praying Madoka was alright, and sure enough was met with a wide smile and bright pink eyes, staring at her excitedly, and... wearing Homura's purple ribbons.
That's new. Homura thought, finding the change cute.
It was better than the time she lost her ribbons and came to school in yellow ribbons, Homura hated it so much she'd gotten her a new pair during break.
When instructed, she went to her usual seat and Ms. Saotome began the lesson, as she did she wondered if Madoka would mind her keeping the ribbons for a few days... or weeks.
Homura? a familiar voice filled her head, startling her, but thankfully she didn't jump, not wanting everyone to see how tense she was.
Homura peeked over her shoulder. Madoka? How are you using telepathy?
My wish, remember?
Homura's blood ran cold, knowing there was a catch; she looked at the clock and raised her hand. "Excuse me, can I go to the nurse's office?"
Ms. Saotome blinked. "Are you not feeling well?"
"A little, I forgot to take my medicine this morning," Homura answered, not quite a lie since she didn't need to take them anymore.
"Alright, Madoka?" Ms. Saotome turned to the pinkette.
"On it!" Madoka saluted, causing a few other students to start laughing.
She jumped up and bee-lined to Homura's desk, where she then led her out the door.
"You shouldn't walk ahead Homura, people will think I'm the new student." Madoka half-joked.
Homura spun around and grabbed Madoka's left arm.
"You're not a Magical Girl, are you?" Homura demanded, looking for a ring that thankfully wasn't there.
"No Homura, do you remember my wish?" Madoka repeated.
Homura shook her head, confused. "You've... made a wish in this timeline?"
"During Walpurgis, when I made my wish?" Madoka prodded, ignoring Homura's question.
"I fell asleep," Homura admitted.
Madoka just hummed.
"What was your wish?" Homura asked.
"I didn't ever want to see you cry like that, you were alone, suffering because of your wish, and you were about to give up..." Madoka trailed off, shooting Homura a glare.
"I asked Kyubey once if it's okay for Mami to die, and Sayaka to suffer for something you're trying to prevent." Madoka began.
Homura's eyes widened.
"Kyubey doesn't have emotions, so he said yes, then he made me see Magical Girls from the past, and I could've helped them, but I wanted something I knew I'd never regret." Madoka's eyes softened. "What if Mami prevented that accident? Or Kyoko's family didn't die? Or Sayaka never forgot why she became a Magical Girl?"
"Homura, you had something you really wanted, and I made you forget that," Madoka's face fell. "I'm so sorry."
"But if doing this--!" Homura began, only to get cut off.
"Kyoko told me it's okay to want something out of your wish; it's your miracle, so be as selfish as you want," Madoka smiled. "Mami said to think carefully, and Sayaka said to make sure I have no regrets."
"And you don't?" Homura asked hopefully.
"No, I don't." Madoka confirmed without hesitation.
Homura bit her lip.
"Tell me Madoka," Homura ordered. "What was your wish?"
"I wanted a world where we could be happy," Madoka took a deep breath. "And my wish was to ensure nothing stood in the way, even if it meant changing history, or having our memories from every timeline."
Homura's eyes widened in shock. "You... can remember everything?"
"Not just me," Madoka smiled brightly. "Mami, Sayaka and Kyoko as well."
"We'll remember everything, no matter how many times you go back," Madoka turned and kept walking, leaving Homura feeling dumbstruck as she tried to wrap her head around everything Madoka just said.
