His hand stroked up and down her cheek, soothing her burning skin with his cool touch. He kissed her, whispering into her mouth for her to come back. But she couldn't. She was fading. Drowning. She could not get to him.

She had given up. Prepared to say goodbye to her mate. To him. Had felt the hands of death grip her ankles and pull her deeper, closer to her end. But then he said it. Those three words that made her remember what she was fighting for. What she had to live for.

"I love you, Freesia."

She kicked and screamed, freeing herself from the grasps of death as she swam for the surface, breaking the bonds holding her to her fate.

"You really just can't die, can you?" Celeste was still in her mind, her claws deep in her head. But as she witnessed Freesia rising back from the depths of afterlife, determination and hatred searing in her gaze, Celeste knew to be scared.

"I think it's your turn to die now, Celeste." Freesia grabbed the sides of Celeste's face, well, the subconscious vision of herself. She yanked her towards herself, pulling her face down to her own, and whispered, "Goodbye Celeste. I hope you find her again, in the after life." And before Freesia destroyed her, pushing her down to the grabbing hands of death itself, she saw gratitude and maybe even happiness pass through Celeste's eyes.

Freesia could only watch as those hands pulled Celeste away, taking her to Gods knows where. But Freesia truly hoped that she would be reunited with her mate. And that she would find happiness once again.

She woke to the sun streaming in through the window, rays of light dancing with Azriel's sleeping shadows. She smiled up at her mate, snuggling closer to his body as she watched him doze.

She breathed him in, taking in this moment that she had waited for, for so long. She missed this, missed him. A tear leaked from her eye as she stroked his cheek with her thumb, reveling in the feel on his skin on hers.

He stirred, his eyes opening lazily as he focused on her. His sleepy smile made her toes curl as he peered down at her. "I still can't believe you're here." He whispered, his smile fading.

Freesia pushed Azriel onto his back, crawling on top of him and straddling his waist. She leaned down, kissing him softly before whispering, "Me either."

Azriel's hands came up to her thighs, making her suck in a breath at the feel of his rough fingers rubbing up and down her legs. A fire started in her core, making her squeeze her legs tighter around Azriel.

"I've been thinking." Freesia breathed into Azriel's mouth before placing another kiss onto his lips, "I love you." She continued, kissing Azriel in between each sentence, "And you love me." She smiled at that, reveling in the idea of being truly loved. She hadn't had that since her mother.

"I want to accept the bond, fully." She lifted her face from his slightly, gazing into his eyes to see his reaction.

The biggest, brightest smile Freesia had ever seen spread across Azriel's face, making her return that smile and kiss him again. Azriel held the back of her head when she tried to pull away, kissing her passionately. Like it was their last kiss. Or the first of many.
