We made it to our destination and exit the ship. The captain wanted to talk to Gon so Kurapika, Leorio, and I made our way to the map to figure out where to go next.
"So (Y/n), why do you cover up really? I mean your beautiful and should show off you b-" before he could finish Kurapika hit him in the stomach. "Don't even finish that sentence." Kurapika said. I laugh slightly before answering, "I cover up so I don't make myself noticeable." "But doesn't that make you more noticeable?" Leorio asked. "I think she means who she is or what she is." Kurapika answered, sounding the same way he did on the ship. I just nod in agreement to him.
"That's stupid." Leorio muttered. After a while Gon walked up to us and said we had to head the the cedar tree. "But isn't that the opposite direction?" Leorio said. "It's what the captain told me, and I trust him!" Gon said before turning and walking to the tree. While Leorio was sputtering nonsense Kurapika and I started following Gon.
After several minutes Leorio comes running up to us saying that he joined because we would be bored. I laughed and smiled, both Leorio and Kurapika saw and laughed as well. After a while we made it to a small village, there seemed to be no one there. A small breeze came through and knocked my hood off, since I wasn't afraid of my eyes changing colors I left it.
We made it to a spot where several people came out of the same area and blocked the road, we were informed that this would be a multiple choice one question quiz. And to our surprise, Leorio said he would answer. "WAIT ONE QUESTION?!" He then yelled. Soon another person taking the hunters exam showed up and did the quiz first. "1 for your mother, 2 for your lover." The lady giving the quiz said. "1. You can't replace your mother but you can get another lover." He answered in a cocky tone. "You may pass." She said, he then walked passed her. "DIFFERENT PEOPLE WOULD ANSWER THAT DIFFERENTLY, THERE IS NO RIGHT ANSWER!!" Leorio screams, I quickly glance at Kurapika who also seems to understand. "Leorio!" Kurapika and I yell in unison. "QUIET, if you two say anything more you will be disqualified." She said to Kurapika and I. After that we just looked at Leorio. The lady asked him his question and he had to choose between his daughter and his son.
Leorio walks over to a house and picks up a stick. "5.....4.....3.....2.....1....." she counts, Leorio then lunges at her. I rush to protect the lady but Kurapika pushes me to the side and brings up two wooden swords to block with. I guess he saw I was just going to use my arms. "Can't you see we got it right? Do you really want to jeopardize that?!" Kurapika yelled towards him, making Leorio confused. "We got it?" He asked, kurapika sighs "The correct answer was silence, you said it yourself there's no right answer." Kurapika said, the lady just nods in agreement. "Your answer is correct." The lady said, then a door opened. "Walk through here and in about 2 hours you will be at your destination." She told us, we nod.
"I still don't know the answer." Gon said, we all turned to him and laughed. "We got it right Gon, you don't need to think anymore." Kurapika said. "But what if im faced woth this choice some day?" My smile quickly faded. I quickly put my hood up as I slightly zone out, 'Is there something I could have done to save them?' I think to myself. Not long after zoning out I feel a hand on my sholder and I snap back to reality, I glance over and see Kurapikas hand on my sholder. "Are you alright (Y/n)?" He said. "O-oh, I'm alright. Just lost in thought I guess." I laugh slightly before following them, not noticing they had already started walking.
"Wait I've seen that look from (Y/n) before, it was on the ship when everyone was sea sick." Gon said. "So we can guess this happens often?" Leorio said. I just nod, 'I need to be careful and try not to zone out so much, they might get curious.' I think to myself before joining in on the conversation going on around me.
"(Y/n), do you have any siblings?" Gon asked, I looked at the boy before nodding slightly. "Yes, well I did. I had an older brother but im positive he was killed along with my family and friends." I respond, my voice slightly cracking. Leorio hands me a tissue, apparently I had started crying. "Thank you." I said quietly, Kurapika just turns his glance forward. I glance at him, the first thing I can see is the pain he hides behind his deep colored eyes. A pain that I too understand, one that brings indescribable pain, worse than what any word can ever say. A pain that brings loneliness and sorrow. He glances at me and I turn my head forward, realizing I was staring.
"Are we there yet?!" Leorio started complaining, I'm surprised it took this long. After a few more minutes we see a house and walks up to it. We knock and hear no answer, but leorio barges in anyways. We see a man injured on the ground and a woman in the hand of a beast. The beast runs with her and Gon quickly chases it, Kurapika following. I stay back woth Leorio and help with the man's injuries. As we were speaking with the man I noticed that with some things he said his tone and pitch changed slightly. After a while I chuckle a bit, Leorio looking confused.
"So how long are you planning on lying to us?" I said, looking the man dead in the eyes. He looks shocked and he starts sweating a bit. "(Y/n) don't freak him out I'm trying to bandage him up." Leorio said, I let him finish before I continued questioning. "Who are you, your not who you say you are." I say still looking him in the eyes. 'I'm starting to sound like Kurapika.' I think to myself. After a while the others came back.
We all stood there and I kept glancing at all the figures in front of me. They explain that they are a family and examiner's for the hunters exam. The one that Leorio and I helped was the son, and the girl wasn't his wife she was his sister. "Kurapika, you were able to tell I wasn't who I claimed to be, and with that being said you passed." She said, Kurpaika sighed a bit probably feeling relieved. I pat his sholder to silently tell him congrats. "Leorio and (Y/n), though Leorio wasn't able to tell I wasn't being honest (Y/n) was. That being said she passed. And Leorio patched up my injures faster than any doctor could have, so he passes as well." The man explained, I high-five Leorio and get a nod from kurapika. "Gon was the only one who was able to tell us apart, and keep up with us with his inhumane speed. He passes as well." We all congratulate eachother before being carried to the next part of the exam.
The boys seem to be having an interesting conversation with eachother. 'I would love to talk with them, but I told myself a while ago not to get close to anyone again. It's the easiest way to avoid another heartbreak.' I think for a while, starting to slightly zone out. After a couple minutes I hear Leorio call my name. I look at him in confusion. "Well come on, you gonna keep us waiting?" He said. "Sorry I wasn't paying attention, please repeat what you said." I asked him. "What do you see when you zone out like that? It has happened 3 times around us." Gon chimes in, catching you off guard. "I-...It's nothing, don't worry about it." I said, they could see my uneasiness with the question and drop it.
After a while we arrive to the next phase of the exam. The man orders something and we are told to go to the back room. As we get there we take a seat around the round table. "I can't wait to dig in to this feast were getting." Leorio said. "I don't think we're getting food." Kurapika said. "I agree with Kurapika, though it's been a while since we ate we don't know what's next so eating could be our downfall." I said to them. After a while the room starts moving and we figure out we're in an elevator. We then arrive to a lower level and see several others there, we assume we arrived to the next phase of the exam. We all get a badge with a number on it. Leorio is number 403, Kurapika is number 404, Gon is 405, and I was 406. From this moment forward things are going to get harder, I can tell by everyone here.
