A Newsies Story

Chapter 7

Marlena's POV

The next day, I woke up and Race walked up to me, "so, uh ya just went to Brooklyn? Ya?" He asked smirking, holding his cigar between his fingers. I nodded my head. "Doesn't look like it much to me, Spotted Hyena" he smirked and pushed my hair aside, showing off the love bites.

"Shut up, please don't tell Jack" I begged.

"I won't, but ya owe me, Spotted Hyena" he said.

"Thanks" I said and hugged him. Now how am I going to cover up these bites?

Soon me, Jack and the other Newsies were standing in front gates. I put my hair in a side braid and covered the spots.

'Open the gates and seize the day

Don't be afraid and don't delay

Nothing can break us

No one can make us

Give our rights away

Arise and seize the day' we sang together.

Then some younger Newsies came up and started playing these drums they made up. I danced with them and ended linking arms with Jack and Blink.

Then a horse carriage came out of the gates, me and the other Newsies moved out of its way. We yelled as it passed by.

Then a couple of scabbers came out from the gates, I stood by Jack and Race. I glared at them.

"Come on, you grafters, cross the line" Race said.

"All right, everyone remain calm" Davey said, I smirked I will not calm down.

There's was silence for a moment.

"Let's soak 'em for Crutchy!" Jack yelled, we all cheered and ran into the gates. The scabbers started to run away and bang on doors.

"Oh, Jack! Jack, the cribs!" Race yelled and turned around. I saw men walking in with clubs and chains. We started to retreat. But the gates closed, so we were trapped.

"Hiya Jacky-boy and Marlena" said Oscar walking towards us. Jack stood in front of me and protected me.

Then Jack and I were circled by them, as other Newsies tried to get to us. I dodged out of the way as a guy tried to hit me with a chain. I saw Jack struggling to also a avoid a scabber trying to hit him with chain.

Then I looked up and see boys, appearing on the roofs. I hear someone land on the fire escape. "Never fear, Brooklyn is here!" Someone says, I look over and see Spot, looking proud getting out his slingshot.

"Its Brooklyn!" Mush says.

"Brooklyn!" Newsies cheer.

I see the scabbers get hit by rocks. A rock hits a man trying to grab me, it hit him in the face and I turn around and punch him in the face and stomach, then kicked him in the place where the sun don't shine.

"Hey Spot!" I hear Jack call out, I see Spot come swinging in on a rope. He kicks two guys holding a Newsie.

I felt a large hand go on my shoulder, I quickly turn around and punch him in the face.

"Ey Hyena! How ya been?" Spot asked jokingly, kicking the guy in the stomach.

"I've been good, so what made youse change your mind?" I asked as a guy came at me with a club. Spot quickly grabbed it and hit the man with it.

"Let's just say it was a sharpeshotting goil" he smirked. I rolled my eyes. "I'd be back, ise got to get other Newsies" he said as he walked towards the gates and opened them. Letting in Brooklyn Newsies.

"Brooklyn!"

I smiled, watching Brooklyn Newsies, push back the scabbers. I walked over to Jack and saw him ripping some newspapers.

"Hey Marlena!" He said and hugged me. I laughed as Spot walked over to us. He put his arm around my shoulder.

"Boys! Marlena! Freeze!" Denton said and took a picture of us.
