Chapter 19
• all the other people sat on the ground to watch and wait.
"pick anyone from this team" she said "i'll pick mine first"
"ok" i just stood their and looked at the paper with their names and positions. after some time i picked my people to assist me. "lana, you, you, you, and you"
the captain picked her people and we begun.
"hey since you're just a kid i'll let you serve up first" she handed me the ball.
i took a deep breath and looked at lana, she told everyone to cover their heads.
i stood at the end of the court and spin the ball in my hands i looked at the captain and looked are her. i threw the ball in the air and ran, i slid my feet and turned to my side and jumped, i saw the ball and slammed the ball to the other side of the court.
"i'll get it" the captain yelled.
as she was about to receive the ball, the ball curved and hit her teammates shoulder and making her fall to the ground, the ball went out of balance and letting my team get the point.
the captain scoffed and smirked at me. i had a deadpan on my face and not giving a single damn but making the team.
after a couple more serves i switched it up a little. i used my left hand confusing everyone and arched my back a little further, i swung myself forward and slammed the ball. it rapidly hit the captain in the shoulder and made her fall.
"y/n you don't need to go that hard" lana laughed
"i'm not going that hard, she just can't take it" i looked down to the captain and stared at her with an icy glare. she smirked and looked at me back.

the first round finally begun with a 6 point league. lana blinked her eyes twice and i ran to the back left side of the court, i ran to the right side and then back forward, i ran to the front right and jumped a little in the air making the three blockers jump. i got down and ran to the other side. i jumped up and slammed the ball onto the other side of the court getting another point.

the next few rounds passed by and it was 24-12 with my team in the league. i jumped fully into the air and got a three person block. i saw two receivers on my left and one a little more to the right of the blockers. i clicked my tongue and slammed the ball through the blocker and making the ball slam onto the ground.
the whistle blew and i jogged over to go get some water. i drank my water and stayed away from the crowd. i drank my water and counted my fingers.
the captain came over to me and looked at me for a little while. i looked back at her and gave her the same glare. the whistle blew and we all walked back to the court.

after the next few rounds playing through it was the same. 24-18, with my team in the league again.
it was the same block but higher. i looked around and turned my spiking position into a setting position and set the fast ball to my other team mate, she got the point letting us win.
we all gave each other high fives and cheered on. i smiled as well and laughed with them and was a little happy.
the coach walked over to me and looked at me.
"last test few tests real quick is to run a 4 mile run" the coach said. i ran a 4 mile run and came back.

"next one is jumping" the coach said and handed me the powder.
i looked at the basketball hoop and took a deep breath. i ran and slid my feet, i jumped up as high as i could and slapped the board.
they measured and gave me, my jumping height.
"358cm" the coach said shocked and looked at me. "kid who are you?"
"i'm y/n" i said and gave a little smile
"well y/n, you're on the team, next week you start practice in the afternoons" she shook my hand and gave me permission to leave the gym. "oh and stop by tomorrow to watch the other tryouts"
i grabbed my stuff and dipped, they all looked me shocked.
"so lana, this was the girl you were talking about? the girl" the captain said
"yea, she's powerful and smart" lana smiled
"i like her, the way she dared to glare at me back with that dark and cold glare gave me chills, it was way scarier, and i never expected to lose, i even picked the best players from the team except you, maybe this year we'll go to nationals" the captain smiled as she watched me walk away. "and the fact she had no doubt she was going to make the team being the only one to take that challenge, she even inspired some of the people to change their letters and go higher"
"yea that's y/n always finding a way to make people feel more confident and push them selves to do better, even after what she was going through in the past, she's a strong girl, don't underestimate her in the game and out of the game, not only is she strong but she can be scary"
