"I'm so sorry ma'am I'll never set foot near your plants again please forgive me it was an accident." I apologised quickly.

"Apologise to the plant, not me." My mother replied.

"I'm so sorry Mr. Plant. I'll watch where I'm going next time. I promise I will not disturb you again." Ughh how embarrassing. I could see Gene trying to hold in his laughter. He would never understand the bond my mother has with plants and how I just disturbed it.

"Clean up the water on the floor and come back to the living room. Maria is on her way." She left the kitchen.

After the plant incident we all went to sit in the living room again. No one really said much while we waited for Maria. Except for my mom. She would occasionally speak of the things that had happened lately and go silent again for the next few minutes. I could tell Gene was rather nervous. The awkward silence on top of that was probably making it even harder for him to stay calm.

Suddenly the doorbell rang.

"That must be her." My mom stood up and went to open the door. We could hear them chatting in the hall for a bit before they started to make their way here.

"Maria, now I need you to prepare a bit for what you are about to see." My mom said to Gene's mom.

"Ah yes. You said there was going to be a shocking surprise waiting for me."

"Indeed. Now please do your best not to freak out."

They walked into the living room. My mom sat back down on the couch in front of us. Maria followed her but stopped when she saw us. She stared for a moment before marching up to Gene and slapping him across the face. The unexpected harsh sound of her slap made me jump a little.

"WHAT THE HELL?!" Gene yelled in pain, surprise and confusion.

"Who are you and what did you do to my son?!" Maria yelled back at him. She grabbed his shoulders and shook him. I looked at my mom who was just observing the jaw dropping scene in front of her.

"It's me mom!"

"It can't be! You died! I saw your dead body, my boy. I was at your damn funeral! There's no way you can be alive." Maria sobbed and dropped down on her knees in front of him.

Wait... funeral... but... didn't he say he was at the hospital this whole time?

I gasped. Everyone looked at me.

Holy shit, I remember it now. I remember preparing for it, the unimaginable agony I felt while they burried him, the screams and tears of his mother beside me, the journey back home with Dante. What the hell... how did I forget this?

I looked over at Gene for a second before I felt dizzy and confused. Not now. What is this feeling? I can't remember what I was thinking about anymore. I tried to close my eyes to stop the dizziness before anyone noticed it. Maria seemed devastated as she sat on the floor and continued to sob. Gene looked exhausted as he held his mother's hand. My mom still looked a little shocked from Maria's reaction to seeing Gene.

"Mom, it's a long story. You might want to sit down." He said to Maria.

"I'll go make her some peppermint tea and get some tissues." I whispered loud enough for them to hear and left to go to the kitchen. I walked slowly just incase the dizziness came back. I decided to stop trying to remember what I had forgotten for a while and prepare the tea and find the tissues. I could hear most of their conversation from the kitchen. Gene was telling his mother about the nurse. He purposely left out the fact that the man who shot him had later on kidnapped him and forced him into doing something horrible for him.

A couple of minutes later I brought the tea and tissues to Maria and set them on the coffee table for her. She was now sitting on the couch beside Gene where I first sat so I sat opposite them with my mom. Gene looked over at my mom and she gave him a slight nod.

"Y/n, come with me." My mom said as she stood up. I didn't question it and did as she said. She brought me upstairs into my old room. Everything had been left where I had last seen it before I moved away but it was obvious someone cleans the room every now and then because of the lack of dust.

"What was with the look he gave you?" I asked.

"I didn't mention it before but Gene said he wanted to speak with Maria in private. I think they kinda really need to at this point. They haven't been keeping in touch a lot before the whole... thing that happened and now that he miraculously returns I feel like they have a lot to discuss."

"You're right."

"Of course I'm right, I'm your mother after all."

I fought the urge to roll my eyes.

"Wait. Does Dante know...?" She questioned.

"Yeah. A couple of days ago he was at my house with Travis when I brought Gene back home. They kinda got the shock of their lives."

"I see. Well at least he knows. Also..." She sat down on the neatly made bed.

"Also what?"

"Remember how Dante practically moved in with you after the whole incident?"

"Yeah what about it?"

"Well before you guys left the hospital that night he came to find me and David. I was the one who wanted to suggest for him to stay with you but before I could he kinda suggested it himself. And at first it seemed like something a supportive friend would do but the more I thought about it and every time I would visit he just..."

"What do you mean?"

"Y/n... I think Dante has feelings for you."

"Uh..."

"Now I could be totally wrong but just something about that moment kept replaying in my mind ever since. And the way he acts around you in general. I'm not sure how to explain it."

"Mom, Dante never said anything about it. Although he did try to... no, he literally kissed me a while ago."

"He what?!"

"Shh--"

"Y/n what are you thinking?! You're already dating Gene. You can't just do that to both of them."

"I'm aware! And I'm not doing anything. I clearly understand that I'm dating Gene and I love him a lot. I don't know what had gotten into Dante that day but he never spoke about having feelings for me or anything like that."

"You should talk to them."

"Both of them?"

"Yes both. How else do you plan on resolving this?"

"I was gonna just talk to Dante. As much as I love Gene and know that this shouldn't be done behind his back, I also value my life. And Dante's for that matter. Have you ever seen Gene get jealous?"

"No. But I feel like it would be wrong not to tell him."

"I planned on telling him after I resolve the entire thing. But I just don't want to get killed."

"Alright alright. All I'm saying is that something is going on with Dante and you should talk to him about it. And I feel like you should also tell Gene because such dishonest and untrusting behaviour can lead to problems in a relationship."

"I see what you mean. Alright. I'll talk to Dante and see what I can do about Gene."

"Yeah you better because my grandbabies aren't going to birth themselves."

"What...? Wait... Why would you say that?!"

"Hahahaha! Just giving you something to think about." She laughed.

"I'm too young to have kids!"

"No you're not. You're just stubborn and over-dramatic. Now if you do decide to have babies soon..." her eyes went all dark and scary, "they better be Gene's."

"Jeez chill."
