Out of Time

James and I...we've gotten closer of the past few weeks. We've gone out on several more dates and James has found he likes dancing, carnivals, and movie nights in. We've done recon here and there and it's been great.

Tonight, James and I are going to a diner for date night. It's a diner that takes you back to the 40s era and it's dance night there.

I'm getting ready in a 40s style dress and have my hair done in the 40s style. I do my makeup like that era as well and slip my heels on. I quickly slip the pearl necklace into my purse before James comes back and I have to meet Clint at the Captain America museum.

I say,"James, baby, I need to grab the pearls for my outfit. I also need to stop off at the Captain America museum. I want to double check something that I learned from that era."

James comes to me and kisses me.

He says,"I'll be here waiting, doll."'

I blush and he says,"You look beautiful."

I ask,"Where's your costume?"

He holds up a bag and says,"I'm going to shower."

I smile and kiss him again before we split up. When I leave the apartment, I head towards the museum. I see Clint and he's with someone.....it's..........Steve.

I run to Steve and collide with him. He wraps his arms around me and I hold him tightly. It's so good to see him. I look up at him and he smiles.

He says,"Princess."

I smile and I say,"I'm so glad Clint brought you."

He smiles and I ask,"Do I give you a flashback?"

I spin around and he says,"You look like you stepped right out of the 40s, Barton."

I smile and something catches my eye from one of the displays. I walk towards it and it's....James. He's standing next to Steve but it was back in the 40s and he has shorter hair. Wow. He hasn't aged. He wasn't frozen in the ocean like Steve though...so how is it possible?

I ask,"Steve, who's that?"

Steve says,"Sgt. James Buchanan Barnes. My best friend. I used to call him Bucky."

My heart stops because that's James. My James.

Steve asks,"You alright, Barton?"

I shake my head and say,"Yes."

Steve looks at me and asks,"You're still safe right?"

I reply,"I am."

Clint asks,"Anything new?"

I reply,"He's been experiencing life and he's really enjoying it. He's still watching you, Nat and Steve. So we can't do THIS again."

Steve looks at me and I say,"I hate not seeing my sparring partner anymore."

Steve smiles and says,"I've always got your back, Barton."

I hug him and he holds me tightly.

Clint says,"Be careful, sis."

I head back to the apartment and am thinking of the display. I walk in and James comes into view. I'm shocked. He looks like he did in the 40s except with long hair. My breath hitches and he straightens his jacket and looks at me.

He asks,"How do I look, doll face?"

I reply,"Uh ummm...uh....what was the question?"

He chuckles and I blush.
