Meredith went back to work. She struggled to keep bad thoughts away at first but with the help of Derek she started doing a lot better as time went on. Time passed very quickly for the two. Meredith had just passed her intern exams and was now a resident. She and Derek were just starting the research for their clinical trial.

They woke up like they had been waking up for the past 4 months now. Together, in each other's arms. Meredith's head buried in Derek's chest to provide safety and his hands tightly wrapped around her small body. Derek had been awake for a while stroking Meredith's arm. She stirred and slowly opened her eyes. She smiled when she felt Derek's hand caressing her arm lovingly.

"Hey" she said sleepily with her hoarse morning voice.

"Hey, good morning" he said back. How she loved his 'good mornings'. "Are you ready to go in for your first day as a resident?" he asked her.

"How can I not be? We are starting our clinical trial today right?" she said.

"Yes. Today a college professor who is taking an interest in neurology is coming to observe the first surgery." He told her.

"A teacher? Really?" she said with a chuckle.

"Yes. Dr. Cameron Duncan." He responded. Meredith turned white. Quite literally. Pale like a piece of paper. Derek obviously noticed. That's how pale she became. "Mer? Meredith what?" She snapped out of it.

"Nothing" she smiled and kissed his lips. "Let's go" she said getting up. She quickly got dressed and Derek did the same.

Derek noticed Meredith acting very weird. She was moving as if she was having an anxiety attack. Her hands were even shaking. He decided not to ask her and let her come to him instead. He knew she didn't want him hovering. They got to the hospital and got out. Meredith went towards the residents' lounge and Derek to the attendings' respectively. He got in his scrubs and went to the lab and made sure everything was ready for the surgery. The main concern was the drug they would inject. He went over everything and then the professor came in.

"Good morning!! You must be Dr. Duncan the professor from NYU?"

"The very same Dr. Shepherd. It is an honour to meet you. Thank you for letting me observe. I am doing my Doctorate's on neurology and this will help me substantially."

"Not a problem professor. Let me page my resident and we can get going." He said sending a page to Meredith's pager. Around 5 minutes passed and Meredith still wasn't answering her page. I decided to page her 9-1-1 to let her know she had to hurry. I smiled awkwardly at Mr. Duncan because he too must be wondering what is taking so long. After a while the door opened aggressively.

"Finally. Dr. Duncan let me introduce you to Dr. M- Dr. Yang?" Derek was very confused to see the beautiful brunette burst in. "What happened?"

"Derek. I can't find her. She gave me her pager and said she is going to the cafeteria to get some coffee and that was an hour ago. I decided to come because you paged 9-1-1 so I thought you needed a resident. But right now I am worried about her." She was rambling. Cristina does not ramble. Derek and Cristina both knew Meredith doesn't just vanish. Especially during work. And especially today. She wouldn't.

"Did you look at the bathrooms?" he stupidly asked.

"Derek she's been gone for an hour if she had gone anywhere she would be back by now. Or she would at least answer her phone. I even had the nurses call for her through the loudspeakers. If she was here she would have heard that. That's not Meredith Grey behaviour" She said. Professor's eyes widened at the name. Derek grew more worried.

"Excuse me professor we will have to postpone the surgery until tomorrow. Something's come up.". And with that he left.

He shouldn't have.

If he hadn't he would have seen that the minute he left, Duncan grabbed Cristina's hand and wrapping tightly his hand around her throat made her tell him all the possible locations Meredith could be at. Cristina got scared and obliged. She knew that whatever he wanted from her best friend, her sister, it wasn't good. She started calling Derek. She tried to warn him. She pressed call and froze when she heard Derek's phone ringing. "Damn it Derek" she said loudly when she saw his phone on the table.

Meanwhile Derek reached the trailer after he'd gone to Meredith's house. He knew she liked to come here when she was stressed. He had a very bad feeling. He pulled up to the trailer and saw two cars. Meredith's car and another one he didn't recognize. He got out and at that moment he heard a gunshot. At that moment his world fell apart. He almost fainted but he couldn't. He had to make sure his Meredith was okay. He waited a little bit. He was about to go in but it hit him that whoever was in there had a gun and he didn't. But his Meredith needed help. He opened his trunk and grabbed his baseball bat. The door thankfully was already opened a cracked. He opened it. He ignored the sight in front of him and gave the guy with the gun a powerful hit to the head. He fell unconscious. Derek disarmed him and then looked at the love of his life. She was barely conscious and didn't have her pants and panties on. This could mean only one thing but he started looking for the bullet wound. It was on her leg and was through and through. He sighed in relief and then assessed her to see if she had any other injuries. She had a pair of hand marks around her throat, multiple bruises on all over her body. He called 9-1-1 from Meredith's phone because he didn't want to move her in case she had any internal injuries he didn't know of. Then he turned to look at the man who did this to her. 'Duncan' he went blind with rage. He fell on him and started punching him. He was bleeding a lot.

"Derek" a soft, very weak voice was heard.

"Meredith , I am here. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry" he said and started sobbing. He hadn't let himself fall apart but hearing her voice made him sure she would pull though. "I am going to kill him" He said and started hitting him again.

"Derek stop, please. Please." He went over to her and scooped her in his arms very carefully. He stroked her head and kissed her forehead.

"I am here, my love. The ambulance is on its way. You'll be okay." He tried to calm her down.

"Dress me up Derek please." She cried. Only then did he realize how humiliated she must be feeling.

"Yes baby, it's okay here" he said standing up grabbing a pair of panties she kept there and putting it on her along with her scrub pants. Not long after an ambulance and police arrived. He went with Meredith and left police deal with Duncan.

"Get us to Seattle Grace." He said and reached for his phone but couldn't find it anywhere. He didn't realize sooner because he called 911 from Meredith's phone. He asked the paramedics for a phone and he called Richard to let him know of the situation and told them to be ready.

Once they arrived, Bailey rushed over Meredith and wheeled her in a trauma room. They assessed her injuries more thoroughly and took care of the gun shot wound on her leg and some minor cuts. They wheeled her in CT and saw that she had internal bleeding, most likely from her spleen and Bailey called the OR to be prepared. When Derek heard this he stopped them.

"You have to perform a rape kit" he said in tears. They all looked at him like he was an alien. They paged Arizona to perform the rape kit.

"I can't. Please let Dr Montgomery do this, please." She said. Bailey got upset.

"Robbins you are a fellow and can't perform a simple rape kit?" Richard said.

"DOES THIS LOOK SIMPLE TO YOU?" she yelled. She was right. Nothing about this is simple.

"Okay have Dr. Montgomery help you" Bailey said. "Be quick, Arizona she has to have surgery."

Arizona nodded and her and Addison started performing a rape kit.

After the surgery they all went up to Derek.

"Is she okay?" he asked very much worried.

"She's fine Derek. The rape kit came back negative. She didn't let him touch her. But there's something else." She said but she was calm.

"What? What's wrong?" he said in fear.

"She's pregnant Derek."

She's pregnant?
