Penny woke up under some rubble, she got up and looked around her surroundings, the misfits all scattered around, Bridget shielding Mumu, Tj under rubble, that's when she noticed Carter lying on the ground, not moving "Carter!" Penny got up and ran to him, upon flipping him over into his back...she saw a piece of wood in his chest "no..no no no no..." She picked him up, holding him in her arms "..hh..penny..?" "Carter! Don't worry buddy, you're going to be okay...just stay with me alright?" "Hah...I'll be..okay..don't worry.." Penny started crying, Carter was in her arms acting like everything is fine while she's just trying her best to keep him alive "what's going on?" "T-tj! Go get the others!!" "What? Why?" "One of them has to be a medic! Be quick" "ha..I don't need a medic..! I'll be okay.." "Carter..." He looked at the wood in his chest "ohh..haha...hah...would you look at that..?" Penny didn't know why he was acting this way, Carter was just so calm about this situation but why? Was he...trying to comfort her so she wouldn't feel upset when he's gone? Is that why he acted so...calm? Did he know what's happening?

"We should get that wood out of Carter!" "N-no! It'll make it worse!" Nobody knew what to do, but Carter still tried his best to comfort the others even if they were panicked about what's going on "Marble, what do we do..?" "..I...I don't know..I've never...been in a situation like this, but we shouldn't take the wood out..it make it worse.." "and...why's Carter acting so..calmm..?" Carter looked at them "hey...I just...don't want y..you guys to be upset.." Penny started crying even more now "no no no...we're losing him!" "Penny..don't cry...I..I'll be okay..just like you...said.." Others started to cry, nobody knew what to do in that moment and they were slowly loosing Carter, who was completely confused about why everyone was so upset but he still tried to assure them he'd be okay "...Carter? Do you know what's happening?" "N..no..I don't.." "...you acknowledge your wound right?" "Y..yeah.." "...just...don't die on us..please.." "I..I won't...! Penny said I'll...be fine..!" Marble nodded in acknowledgement, knowing damn well Carter isn't going to make it

"...Penny..?" "...yeah Carter..?" "I'm...feeling tired..but why..?" "..Carter..please don't close your eyes...just stay with us.." "b..but it's like...I have to..." Penny started crying again, at that moment she finally realized he want going to make it, she didn't want to lose him, nobody did..Carter looked up at Penny one last time "...Penny...just..remember..." He tipped his hat "..I'll be..okay.." his eyes slowly shut and his hand fell to the ground "no...no no no no.." Penny checked for a pulse, there wasn't a pulse anymore, she started bawling her eyes out at the fact she'd just lost someone she deeply cared about, even if she didn't show it often, Marble started crying "was it our fault..? For getting you all in that room..and this happening..?" "No Marble..this is mine.." Penny got up, still holding Carter, and walked away, the rest followed her as they found a way out back to Inkopolis "...watch your step, looks like they put a new flooring in.." the group carefully walked out of the tunnel and into Inkopolis, immediately greeted by Marina and Pearl

"Is he okay?!" Pearl asked, Penny just shook her head and walked to Grizzco "Mr.Grizz? We have...bad news..." "Eh?" Penny showed the small bear statue Carter "..he's gone.." "oh..well, I'll uh..tell Pearl and Marina, if you hadn't already of course..." Penny nodded in acknowledgement and walked out, "now what?" "I..I don't know, if we put him in water...nothing will happen..." "...I heard his favorite spot was a tree in the middle of a flower garden..let's bring him there...I'm sure Carter would like it.." the group agreed, heading off to the flower garden and heading for the tree "wow..it's really pretty here..I can understand why he probably liked it so much.." Penny carefully rested Carter against the tree and looked at him one last time "...rest easy, Carter" she walked away slowed, head hanging low, cheeks red from crying so much, Penny felt like it was her fault Carter was gone, in truth it was nobodys fault..

"Wh..what?" "Mr. Grizz, you can't be serious!" "I'm sorry you two, one of Carter's friends was the one who delivered the news to me..now it's your job to tell everyone here what happened.." Marina sighed "I..alright..if it's the only thing we can do.." later that day, Inkopolis news was on and Penny was at home "good afternoon Inkopolis, unfortunately..we have some unfortunate news to share.." "Carter Thornsby, known as Carter, had unfortunately passed away after being impaled, one of his friends says that he was trying to make everyone who was there with him happy before he died.." "we had also managed to get in touch with someone who was friends with the person who had caused his death, here's what they had to say" the screen changed to show a young inkling with short hair and green eyes "yeah uh..she was my friend around 3 years ago..I gotta admit, she was another reason our friend group had broke apart, but I'll also admit I'm surprised that she'd do this and kill someone.." the screen changed back to Pearl and Marina "it's unfortunate we had lost two people today but these were one of the words Carter's friend had said to him.." Marina began crying, looking at the small paper she was holding ".."rest easy, Carter..".." "that's it for the news today, we apologize for having to deliver this but in honor of him..Grizzco will be open at all times, I'm sure he'd like it.." "and remember..don't get cooked, stay off the hook.."

Penny was walking around Inkopolis, it'd only been two days and yet everyone was still talking about it, she caught something out of the corner of her eye..a familiar figure at Grizzco..she slowly walked towards it, before realizing who it was and ran up to them "...Carter?" "Hi penny! See? I told you I'd be okay! Just like you said!" "Yeah! Glad to see you around here, buddy!" Carter still may not full understand what had happened to him at all or if he already figured it out but all he really cares about now..
