the tree

My sword clinked against my armor, A clang of netherite meeting netherite. My 19th birthday had just passed, another birthday with just me and the guardians. My past birthdays have been depressing, no presents, no loved ones and definitely no celebration. But this birthday might be the best birthday of my life.

I was finally coming home.

After spending my days in the vast mountain ranges, I had finally completed my training. A feat that usually would take 10 years, I took 4. I had excelled in all my lessons in combat, intelligence and other various topics. Becoming the youngest person ever to complete the guardians training. Life was lonely in the mountains, but that only helped me grow. When you are alone with your thoughts, life still goes on.

I had no drive in life except to return to my friends and family in the Dream SMP. I kept busy leveling up my armor. What used to be diamond, was now netherite. I had also spent lots of time training in archery.

I spent long nights at the shooting range, working on my shot. I had become proficient with my bow. My bow was basically glued to my back by now.

I walked through the heavy forest, rain pouring down and soaking my hair. The wet dirt squishing underneath my feet, coating the underside of my boots.

Raindrops had collected on my eyelashes, blurring my vision. Both my hands were occupied by my bags, so I had to find a dry place to set them down. I kept walking nearing a clearing, a large tree in the middle, its branches splitting, criss crossing through the sky. In the fork of the branches was a perfect spot to set my bag.

I walked up to the tree, heaving my bag up into its trunk. I huffed out of exhaustion, I had been walking all day, the sun setting over the tree line. I tugged out the ribbon in my hair, that was securing it into a ponytail. Pulling the collar of my shirt up I wiped my wet face, drenching my shirt.

Snap.

I heard the sound of tree branches on the ground. My face still in my shirt, I paused to listen. Soft footsteps patted the dirt behind me. They didn't want to be heard. The footsteps got closer and closer. They were approaching me.

I snapped my head out of my shirt, taking off running around the tree. I pumped my arms, my sword hitting my leg as I sprinted through the forest.

I thought I had made some distance so I looked behind me. Nobody was there.

Had I just imagined it? Then I heard it, an ender pearl. I turned my head back forward and- THUD.

I slammed into something. My head hit it hard, I wobbled back, rubbing my forehead.

"Now what do we have here?" someone sneered.

I looked up. A tall man was standing in front of me, netherite amour covering a lime green hoodie. A shining axe in his hand. I looked up and my eyes met his.

Well maybe not his eyes.

A white mask stared down at me, a menacing black smile painted onto it. Emerald green eyes could be seen if you looked closely enough, his mask barely covering his jawline.

I gasped. Stumbling over my feet, I tried to turn to run but a hand soon gripped my shoulder, spinning me and pushing my back against a tree.

"Now who said you can run from the king?" he growled, his arm pinning me to the tree.

Fear rushed over me as I looked around me. But then a feeling of relief hit me.

I smirked. I had now met the man who had been tormenting and torturing my friends for years.

It was my turn.

I didn't speak. Our heavy breaths consuming the silence. His jaw clenched. He shoved his arm against me harder, daring me to test him again. With the force of his push, my bow dug into my spine, causing my back to arch.

He laughed, a cold laugh. A laugh making fun of me, as if he despised my existence. His eyes examined me, trailing down my body. I watched his eyes scour me, not caring that I was watching him.

"Look at you. So helpless. So weak." He challenged. We locked eyes. He then leant into my ear and whispered,

"Imagine all the things I could do to you right now."

Some nerve. I am the opposite of helpless and weak. I knew what I had to do.

He leaned back. If I could see his face, I know there would be a smug grin on it.

"Nothing to say m'lady?" he hissed.

I opened my mouth to speak, then hesitated, he looked down on me, his aura menacing. I tilted my head to the side, leaning in. He sucked in a sharp breath, putting his chin up. I glanced at the side of his face, then noticed his exposed ear. Beginners mistake.

I quickly wrapped my hand around his head, slamming the top of my helmet into his ear. His grip on me dropped and I took my opportunity. I sprinted through the trees, a grunt of pain ringing through the forest behind me. I whipped around the trees not daring to look back.

I needed my bag. Theres no way I could outrun him, his heavy footsteps already getting closer. I approached the tree, picking up my pace as I ran through the grass. If he couldn't locate me, he could now. No trees surrounded me, my enchanted armor shining in the night.

I finally reached the tree, tearing my bag down from its trunk. I ransacked the contents of my bag, tearing through my stuff. Then I found them. I pulled out a shiny ender pearl. I eyed the forest quickly tossing it into the forest.

Suddenly a large figure appeared on the grass line. I smiled at him. I put my hand up and saluted him, mocking him with his own arrogance.

"Goodbye Dream."

He reached out trying to tackle me to the ground, when my surroundings changed. I quickly climbed the nearest tree. Hiding myself in its leaves. I waited, he was still nearby and my head ached from slamming it into his. I leaned back against the bark, getting comfortable for the time being.

A few moments later I heard footsteps, crunching of underbrush underneath their feet. I quietly leaned on the branch peering down at the man.

"I don't know where you are, or where your going. But just know, we will meet again. And when we do. You better be ready."
