the walls

I had finally reached it "You are now entering DREAM SMP" The sign read. I laughed to myself as I pushed the sign over with my foot. What can I say? Old habits die hard.

I had gotten cleaned up at a spring I passed and my boots were still a little wet. I frowned at the dirt that was now clinging to the sides of them.

I spent the whole night in the tree, careful not to have another run-in with Dream. "You better be ready."  His words rung in my ears as I thought about it. Trust me, after that incident last night, I know i'm ready.

I sucked in my breath as I crossed the final hill to the village. After 4 long years of waiting, this moment was finally happening. So why was I so nervous?

I had finally reached the top of the hill and I stopped. I looked out at the village I used to call home and saw it no more.

Big black walls, with yellow details rose high into the sky above me. Guard towers adorned every corner. It's menacing tone brought new emotion to me. Fear.

What had happened to the village? Where were my friends? Who did this?

I quickly found a safe spot to leave my stuff, I didn't want my heavy backpack to be weighing me down whilst I ventured into this strange area. I took out my sword and loaded my bow.

I made my way down the hill, stepping quietly through the grass. A strange silence filled the air as I rounded the corner of the large walls. There was an opening of the barricade on this side and I quickly made my way to it. I pressed my back and peeked around the corner, only to be met with,

nobody.

I looked around the walls contents. What used to be our village now laid a vast landscape. A small pond with a dock was to my right and upon further inspection bright red salmon swam in its depths. Many oak trees adorned the landscape, their green contrasting against the dark black of the walls. Flowers were spread, growing across the grass, bumble bees working amongst themselves. In front of me was a grey trailer. I didn't match its surroundings. It appeared to have just been dragged in here, dirt still disrupted from its path.

I approached its door cautiously, careful of what its contents may be. I lightly stepped up the single stair, slowly swinging open its birch door.

"Tommy there's no way you went all the way to your house and back by now. You need to go get the blaze powder, don't even think about making Tubbo do it either." A familiar voice filled the trailer.

"Will, you know he's gonna make Tubbo do it." I smirked turning around the corner to face him.

"Holy shit." He gasped. Quickly running over to me. "4 years, and you're finally back Gabby!" He broke the hug looking me up and down, "4 years Gabby." He scolded, his tone going serious for a moment.

"Hello Will. Boy the village has changed huh?" I prodded, eager for explanation.

"Welcome to L'Manberg." He grinned, waving his hands in the air, as to display a spectacular object. "We built great walls, without the kings permission and we make millions off of our drug lab, and none of it's going to him, or his stupid friends! The revolution has started!"

"What?" I laughed. I stepped back, in shock of what he had said. He had to be kidding. Right?

He frowned. "Gabby, all these years you wanted to do something about Dream and his tyranny. When you left, we had to finish where you left off!" his voice trailed off. "We did this all," He looked at me, grabbing my hands as a plea of approval. "For you."

"Will," I sighed looking out the windows at the giant walls surrounding us, "this is uncalled for. I never wanted something like this to happen. Your asking for death! For war! And for me?"

"We thought you were dead Gabby!" He threw my hands out of his. "We thought you were never coming back!" He shouted.

"This is not my fault!" I cried. "Didn't Phil tell you what happened?"

Wilbur looked up at me, shock taking over his face. "Phil knew where your were, this whole time?" He question.

I was angry. "What!" I yelled at nobody in particular. "He sent me away for what he thought would be 10 years, leaving me no chance to say goodbye, and didn't tell anyone where I went! Or more so where I was forced to go!" I turned on my heels storming towards the door. There was hell to pay.

"Wait stop!" Wilbur grabbed my arm. "Stop, you need to listen." Wilburs attitude shifted as he pulled out a chair for me to sit down in.

I sat down, huffing as I pushed my hair back behind my ears.

"After you left, Phil got sick. With each passing week," He put his head down. "It only got worse. We tried potions, bedrest, doctors, heck we even gave him a golden apple! But nothing changed. He's gone Gabby."

Silence filled the room. Tears threatening my eyes. Wilbur slowly got up, and I shot up and embraced him. Phil had always been there for us. When we were little and scared of thunderstorms, when we forgot to make our lunch for school, when we fell asleep on the couch so he carried us to our rooms. Phil stepped in as our father figure, guiding us through the ups and downs of life. Even though Phil had practically ruined my teenage years I forgave him. Phil always put others before himself, he knew what was best for me. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't change a thing.

Because even after all the loneliness, all the pain, all the trauma, it was all worth it. For Phil.
