Chapter 13

In the infirmary Yeosang had sat San down on one of the beds while he went through the cabinets in search for some gauze and some stuff to disinfect and clean the wound. When he found everything Yeosang kneeled down next to San placing everything on the bed next to San. Yeosang carefully rolled up San's sleeve, the blood already having darkened and dried to the males skin. Yeosang began to carefully clean the wound, his hand holding San's arm still while the other worked to wipe away the dried blood. San winced a bit at the sting but he remained still so Yeosang could work properly. "Sorry" Yeosang mumbled as he finished cleaning the wound. Now that the blood was out the way, the cut wasn't super deep and it should heal nicely. Yeosang sighed, "fucking Seonghwa, he always takes sword practice so seriously" he muttered as he began wrapping San's arm.

San watched him, his eyes focused on the brunette's hands as they maneuvered the gauze around with ease. "He's accidentally cut someone before?" San asked a slight joking tone in his voice. Yeosang shook his head, "No, it's the first time he cut someone but he tends to always push people past their limits, which is why Hongjoong prefers if Jongho or Mingi teach, so I am a bit shocked that he let Seonghwa teach you" Yeosang explained finishing up the gauze. San looked at his arm before rolling down his sleeve, "Oh, Seonghwa said Mingi was better at guns and Jongho was busy" San explained to which Yeosang nodded. Yeosang stood up pushing some of his hair out his face as he looked down at San. San looked back at him, he had something he wanted to ask, a question that has been on his mind since he joined the crew, and he felt Yeosang would be the best person to ask. "Can I ask you something?" he started off, Yeosang nodded taking his seat next to San, "Sure, what's up" he responded as he awaited San's question.

San chewed on the inside of his cheek all of a sudden feeling embarrassed of his question. "I have been curious about the relationship between captain and Seonghwa. I've noticed that they seem much closer compared to the other crewmates" San said looking at Yeosang. Yeosang hummed chuckling a bit, "I was honestly wondering when you were going to ask about that. Captain and Seonghwa are dating" he answered nonchalantly. San was secretly hoping that wasn't the case, but even he had thought about that possibility before. "How long have they been together?" he asked, he didn't know why, his heart was already clenching in his chest. Yeosang looked at the ceiling as he thought before looking back at San, "they've been together for maybe almost two years now, although they have been very close for a while, they knew each other when they were teenagers. Seonghwa convinced Hongjoong to live out his dream as pirate, and Hongjoong only agreed if Seonghwa was the one by his side" Yeosang explained. San didn't say anything, 'that's why Seonghwa wanted to forget me so badly...he replaced me' the mermaid thought trying his best to keep himself calm.

"I'm kinda jealous though" Yeosang chuckled resting his elbows on his knees, using his hands to support his head as he stared at the door of the infirmary. "They have such a special bond, it's very rare to see a love like theirs, makes you kinda want that you know" Yeosang asked looking at San. San nodded looking at his bracelet, "Yeah...they're lucky to have something like that" San spoke but it was as if he was speaking to himself. "You sound like you had something like that" Yeosang was looking at San, reading the expression on his face with intrigue. The male next to him seemed like he was trying to hold back pain, his eyes looked distant as if he was remembering something, his eyes travelling to the seashell bracelet on his wrist. San chuckled, shaking his head looking at Yeosang, "there was someone who I...who I cared about deeply, someone who I wanted to love...but I guess the universe didn't want that for us" San spoke softly and wavering slightly. Yeosang fought the urge to pull San into his arms and hug him, the brunette turning his attention to the door once more.

San shook his head pushing the thoughts away, "Sorry for getting so depressing" he chuckled. Yeosang shook his head, "No you're fine, I appreciate you opening up to me" he smiled softly. "So, are their any other couples on the ship?" San asked, changing the subject a bit, he had seen some interactions between certain people so he had some suspicions. "Not set couples like captain and Seonghwa, but between you and me, I think Jongho and Wooyoung are going to get together" Yeosang said wiggling his eyebrows playfully. San gasped, "You think so you? I know I haven't been here long but I see how Wooyoung always tease and clings to Jongho, and I think I even saw him sneaking into Jongho's room the other night" San was much happier talking about this than he was with Seonghwa and Hongjoong. Yeosang nodded, "everyone knows they like each other, we actually have placed bets on who will ask who out first. My money is on Jongho since Wooyoung isn't the type of person to admit he likes someone, and Jongho can get possessive and since Wooyoung is the type to be touchy feely and friendly with everyone Jongho gets pretty jealous, plus he's the type to say what's on his mind when he gets drunk" Yeosang explained to an eager San. Yeosang glanced out the small porthole shaped window to check the time. "We should get going, it's getting dark and I have to check inventory today" Yeosang said standing up, he grabbed the gauze and anything else he needed, putting them back in their spots.

San stood up as well, he thought he could take a nap before dinner. "Ah right!" Yeosang spoke up suddenly turning to San reaching into his pocket and pulling out an orange. "I have seen you eat a lot of oranges this week, so I thought you would like one" Yeosang explained holding out the fruit to San. San smiled, taking the orange from him, it felt weird having someone other than Seonghwa give him one, but he still liked the gesture. "Thank you, but you just carry oranges in your pockets?" he asking teasingly looking at Yeosang. Yeosang rolled his eyes, "I was actually going to eat it for a snack but I thought you would appreciate it more. I could take it back" he teased holding his back out. San shook his head holding the precious fruit close to him, "No way, I will enjoy this delicious orange" he giggled, the sound causing Yeosang to smile. The brunette had to admit he definitely liked hearing San giggle. "Good, because I hate taking back gifts" Yeosang chuckled, the two of them leaving the infirmary, San feeling much better now.

Meanwhile Hongjoong was busy navigating the ship when Seonghwa entered the area. "Yeosang said you needed me?" the blonde asked as he made his way by Hongjoong's side. Hongjoong turned to Seonghwa, "I was curious about how your training went with San" the shorter male said. Seonghwa ran his fingers through his hair glancing out to the ocean watching as the waters moved carrying their ship with it. "It went pretty well, he's a fast learner which is good...but we had to cut training abruptly" Seonghwa explained a bit vaguely. Hongjoong raised his eyebrow, his hands still firmly on the wheel to keep the boat on the right course. "And why did it end so quickly?" Hongjoong asked. Seonghwa looked at Hongjoong, the shorter male had a serious look on his face, the gaze making Seonghwa a bit nervous to speak. "I might have...accidently cut San" Seonghwa slowly answered a bit ashamed of what had happened. "I should've known you would have taken the training a bit too seriously, but I didn't think you would injure our new crew mate" Hongjoong spoke his tone scolding. Seonghwa felt even more guilty now that Hongjoong was scolding him.

"I know I know, but it was an accident, he tripped and I didn't realize he couldn't block my sword, but I checked on him, the cut wasn't deep and Yeosang took him to the infirmary" Seonghwa explaining hoping to get Hongjoong to not be upset with him anymore. Hongjoong hummed, "As long as he's okay, I won't kick your ass for being reckless" despite his words Hongjoong's tone was light even a playful smile on his face. Seonghwa rolled his eyes, "I have been meaning to ask you, why did you want me to train San, Jongho could've done it once he finished doing his job" the question has been plaguing Seonghwa's mind since Hongjoong asked him to do it. Hongjoong shrugged, "I thought it would be a good way for you to get closer" he said turning his attention back to the wheel, his eyes scanning over the horizon. Seonghwa furrowed his brows confused, "why would you need to do that?" he asked. Hongjoong looked back at Seonghwa, "it's cause I have noticed how you two seem to be avoiding each other for whatever strange reason, and as my second in command I don't like how you are not trying to get close to San. He's apart of our crew Hwa and you being the only one to distance yourself from him is unacceptable" Hongjoong explained his expression serious.

Seonghwa sighed since Hongjoong was right, he shouldn't be avoiding San but it's complicated, and it's not like he could tell Hongjoong the reason why either. "I know...and I am sorry, I'll try to warm up to him" Seonghwa gave in, although it was easier said than done. Hongjoong smiled a bit removing his hands from the wheel to wrap his arms around Seonghwa's waist, Seonghwa immediately holding the male close. Seonghwa looked down at Hongjoong, his eyes soft as he gazed into the males brown irises. "I know you are still a bit hesitant having a new crew member after what happened to the last few, but I wouldn't have brought San into our crew if I didn't believe he is a good person, so you need to try and make him feel like he belongs here" Hongjoong spoke softly. Seonghwa nodded, "I love you" he announced suddenly. Hongjoong chuckled, "I love you too" he hummed happily when Seonghwa leaned down kissing the male. Seonghwa pulled Hongjoong closer as he deepened the kiss gently biting his bottom lip. Hongjoong slowly pulled away from the kiss, "I got to get back to being the captain of the ship" he breathed out gently moving out of Seonghwa's grasp. Seonghwa nodded, allowing his boyfriend to focus on navigating the ship.
