Trigger warnings: Death, death, and more death, but also mentions of abuse
It felt as though it were yesterday. Virgil remembered this sort of.. memory? Dream? Honestly, who cared. At least he can actually remember what happened.
Lane and their 'father' had a recent argument. In which someone decided to be more violent than he usually would, cutting the side of Lane's arm just below her elbow. And just her luck it was summer so the scar would be showing constantly.
Virgil quickly wrapped around the wound with gauze. "I told you not to get him angry, stupid."
"He had it coming." Lane's familiar humming of the show tune rang out in Virgil's brain. Yeah, it'd only been a year since she died but still...
"But still," Virgil murmured softly.
"I'll be fine, Storm," Lane hummed, not meeting his gaze. "When I turn eighteen, Storm Cloud, we'll get out of here... I promise you."
That nickname...
It's what she always called me, Virgil thought. But, it doesn't feel the same anymore. Not like it used to.
The scene around him melted away, revealing two small children. A girl holding tight to her sibling.
"T-tell me she's okay," the younger of the two whispered.
The girl only looked forward, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Never thought I'd be here again. He passed the kids, going into a small hospital room.
A woman was there, lying limp and a heart monitor showing a flat line with the monotonous 'beep' ringing through his ears. He looked further into the room, shaken up slightly by the woman.
His gaze turned toward another person. A man... A man was holding a small infant in his arms, shaking softly and kissing the baby's forehead.
"I-I couldn't save them," the man managed to get out between sobs "I couldn't save them," his voice broke. He held the child tight as the sobs became louder.
"I wanted you to see someone you never could," someone whispered. It was as though the whispers surrounded him from all directions. "You were too scared to go in... Mom wanted to see you for one last time but I knew you couldn't... and poor baby Hannah... Never got to see anyone but mom and dad." The whisper stopped and the scene melted to black.
The silence that seemed to drag on felt so loud. "I'm so sorry...... Storm." The voice said.
Virgil gasped softly at the faint sight of his sister, just moments after... his father pulled the trigger.
