We drove for about 15 minutes down the road and ended up at a large, beautiful, classy farmhouse. It was pale blue with white shutterers and other white accents. Even in the dark, you could see the big wrap around porch with the swinging bench that I always dreamed about.

While I was admiring the house, Dawson had already gotten Colten unbuckled and opened my door. "C'mon, I don't bite. Hard," he added with a cheeky wink. I couldn't help but laugh a little.

I trailed behind Dawson, who now had Colten on one hip and the suitcase in the other hand. He opened the door and went in. I walked in and gasped.

Dawson spun around. "What? What's wrong? Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He freaked out.

"No, no. Nothing like that. It's just beautiful in here. It's the house I've always wanted." I smiled.

"Well, I'm glad to hear that. How about I call my brother, and make us something to eat, because I think your dinner is now laying in an alley in town." He called out over his shoulder, "Make yourself at home."

"Colten, baby, go wash up while I talk to Mr. Dawson." I had yet to learn his last name. I shooed him away towards the room that appeared to be a bathroom right off the living room. I walked into the kitchen to overhear the last bits of the conversation. I think Dawson was on the phone.

"She's beautiful. Something tells me that she needs more than just a little doctoring up." Pause. "Yeah, I don't see a wedding ring." Pause. "You pig! Obviously she doesn't need a relationship right now to complicate things!"

Something cold nudged the exposed skin that my shorts were showing. I gasped and spun around, only to see an orange dog with white polka dot covering him. The tip of his tail looked like someone dipped it in white paint. I laughed as he wagged his odd tail.

"Well hello. Aren't you adorable!" I laughed and pet the dogs head.

"His name is Charlie. He is a rescue dog." Dawson spoke lowly and right behind me. I spun around only to crash into his chest. I would've fallen from the impact if Dawson hadn't reacted so quickly and caught me.

"I'm so sorry! I'm a klutz. I'm so sorry!" I quickly said. All he did was look at me. It was odd. He just stared at me while still holding my waist. I cleared my throat and he broke out of his trance and released me.

"Well, Jake should be here within a half hour or so. He had a to tell his.. Lady friend... She had to leave." Dawson turned back around and continued cooking like nothing happened. He turned slightly to the side and opened the fridge and examined the contents.

I took this moment to really look at him in the light for the first time. Before, I could tell he was built but now I realize just how big he was. He had jet black hair that was in need of a trim. His skin was a deep bronze color from many days in the sun. He easily towered over my 5'3 height with his 6'2 form. He glanced at me and I saw how blue his eyes were, they looked unnatural. They were beautiful. To sum him up, he looked like a god. And don't even get me started on his voice! It was deep and husky. It gave me shivers every time I heard it. I snapped myself out of it and asked him, "What can I do to help? I'm not used to being idle."

"You can get the macaroni cooking. I'll do the grilled cheese. Hope you two like that, because that's all I know how to make." I laughed at that. At least he had a sense of humor. Lord knows I could use a little light in my life.

"So, Miss. Waters. How old are you? You don't look nearly old enough to have a son as big as Colten." He questioned.

"I'm 20 years old. And Colten is 5. I'm not Colten's biological mother. Last year, I saw him and fell in love. It was a risky move adopting at 19, but the heart wants what the heart wants. He's my son in every way that counts. I'm all he has and he's all I have. We're a pair and nothing can change that." I stated sternly, leaving no room for him to judge me. "Oh and call me Eden. How old are you?"
