It was early the next morning when they continued along their journey. They were both pretty tired due to Angel constantly asking questions about her mom.
"Where is she?" She questioned. "Why won't you tell me where she is?"
Dragonfruit let out a sigh. "Because you might do something reckless. The kingdom she's in doesn't exactly have the most friendly dragons." He turned to face her, flying backwards awkwardly. "I'll let you know when we get to the kingdom. Alright?"
Angelwing nodded. "I guess."
'It's not like I have any other choice' She thought.
Angelwing's curiosity was strong, causing the flight to last for what felt like an eternity, and her claws were shaking in anticipation. She might finally be able to meet her mother after all these years. If she could only get Dragonfruit to talk.
"Ah, we're here." Dragonfruit said, snapping her out of her thoughts. She look all around her. There was literally nothing but water.
"Um... There's nothing here." She said, giving him a confused look.
Dragonfruit let out a snort. "It's called the sea kingdom. Unless you can breath under water, what did you expect?"
Angelwing gave him a glare of his sarcasm and began to look at the water. Something ended up catching her eye that caused her to move closer to the water.
It looked like a ruin of some sort. There was a destroyed building that was covered in moss. It was clear that nobody had been here for a long time.
"What is this place?" Angelwing questioned Dragonfruit as he landed beside her.
"Its the ruins of the Summer palace." A voice said behind them. Angelwing and Dragonfruit turned around to face the voice. There stood a dragon she had never seen before. He had phosphorescent scales like her father did, but had nothing else similar to him at all. The dragon was a light grey, with a little bit of white here and there. His head, spikes, and claws were all an aqua green and the air around him seemed to be colder. Angelwing's scales began to turn shades of gold and yellow, showing her excitement.
"What kind of dragon are you?" She questioned, she began to bounce around him.
"Well, I'm mostly Icewing." He said, watching her bounce around him. "I have a bit of seawing, which is why I have the phosphorescent scales"
"That's really cool." Dragonfruit chimed in. "I've never met a hybrid before."
"Hybrids are quite common now, We're just hard to find because we aren't exactly welcome in most places." The strange dragon said with a sigh. "But the Seawing queen actually accepts me for who I am, and my Icewing heritage is no issue. She's even trained me in aquatic."
"Aquatic?" Angelwing questioned, leaning her head slightly to the side.
"Its the use of our phosphorescent scales." He said, spreading his wing and lighting up his scales. "Its like morse code. We use the glows in different patterns and they mean different words and sentences."
Angelwing sat there, puzzled. Why didn't her father know this underwater language? And if he did, why didn't he teach it to Moondrop?
In the middle of Angel's thought's, she noticed a large blue dragon emerging from the water behind the hybrid dragon. She had a unique pattern on her wings, and was adorned with pearls and beads and a gold crown on her head. Angelwing instinctively bowed, as she guessed from the jewelry, she was the Queen.
The large dragon looked at her, with a very cold look, and Angel could feel her scales turning a very pale shade of green as a feeling of fear began to form in her stomach. The large dragon then cleared her throat before turning to the Hybrid.
"Wintertide," She said in a stern tone. "Where have you been? You know how I get when you're gone for so long."
The hybrid gave her a sad look. "I'm sorry. I was doing as you asked, but I met these Rainwings. And they were asking questions about me, and I thought it would be rude to not answer."
The Queen turned to the two Rainwings, and motioned for them to come out of their bows.
"Hello there, Rainwings. I am Queen Ahtohallan. I would like to thank you for finding Wintertide for me." She said, in a kind voice, which really surprised Angel. She was so different from the last Queen. "What are your names, and what brings you here?"
"I am Angelwing, and this is my friend, Dragonfruit." Angel said, as her scales shifted back to normal. "I have recently got my vision and Dragonfruit is showing me the continent. I promise you we mean no harm."
Wintertide gave an excited gasp as Angel finished her sentence, and Ahtohallan's expression became a bit pained.
"You're traveling the whole continent? Even to the Ice kingdom?" She questioned.
Dragonfruit nodded. "I have to find out if there's a way to get past the great Ice cliff, but we do plan on going there."
Queen Ahtohallan looked at Wintertide sadly, and he gave a sad look back at her. It caused her to let out a sigh. "Wintertide has a mate back in the Ice kingdom. He hasn't seen her for five years now. Would you two consider taking him with you?"
Dragonfruit gave Angelwing an 'It's up to you' look. She looked at Wintertide, then to Ahtohallan, then back at Wintertide. "Its alright with us."
Wintertide let out a jump for joy, then gave the Queen a tight hug, wings and all. "Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!"
Ahtohallan gave him a sad smile, and tears could be seen forming at the corners of her eyes. "You be safe out there, okay?"
Wintertide nodded vigorously, then trotted over to stand with the two young Rainwings.
"You three may spend the night here, and resume your journey in the morning." She said, her voice cracking slightly. "I will have a dragon come by and bring you guys food later."
Angelwing gave her a nod and another bow. "Thank you, your majesty."
The Queen gave her a nod before disappearing back into the dark, blue ocean.
