Levi's POV
Flashback:
"Levi, do you want to help me go shopping?" my mother asked after closing the cupboard door, realising we needed to stock up on food. We weren't that poor but we didn't have a lot of money. Kenny sent us money every now and then but my mum didn't like using it. Mum would always work long hours to earn enough money to support the three of us. My dad abandoned us immediately after Mikasa was born. I didn't have many memories of him, he wasn't that memorable. All I know is that he was constantly shouting at mum so I'm glad he left.
"Do I have a choice?" I replied, my mum laughed and replied,
"Nope." She replied with a smile, "C'mon let's go," she said grabbing my hand.
"Wait! Mikasa's three years old, she can't stay home alone!"
"Kenny's coming over in 5 minutes, it's fine." Mum replied practically dragging me out the house, "It's nice to be outside don't you think?"
"No there are both people and germs, I hate being outside."
"Learn to enjoy life, you're ten years old you have a lot left to live."
"Yeah, yeah whatever. Don't we have groceries to buy?" I said walking the direction of the shops, my mum following behind me.

We had arrived at the shops and mum was picking out vegetables, when a man I had never met before came up to us.
"Hey gorgeous, I was wondering if you were free later today? Maybe we could go on a date sometime?" The man asked. I wasn't going to interfere with what happened, after all it's my mum's choice whether or not she wanted to accept.
"It's a kind offer but I'll have to refuse, I'm not interested." Then the male's expression hardened and he grabbed mum's hand firmly.
"Too bad you're coming anyway." He stated, and just as he was about to drag her off I came out from behind her. Then kicked him in the shin and said,
"Fuck off, can't you understand when someone says 'no'? Or can you not understand basic human language? Besides, who in their right mind would go out with your ugly ass?"
"Levi don't, the truth can hurt." Mum said with a smirk as she walked off, holding my hand. "Thank you Levi, and make sure you did that to other females being harassed as well, not just me."
"I was planning on it, I mean it's not their fault that a lot of men are disgusting perverts who can't keep it in their pants." I replied, shrugging it off as I continued to walk down the aisle.

We had finally finished shopping and were almost home but suddenly a car came speeding down the road. I was already on the pavement but mum was still crossing the road, "Mum watch out!" I scream but it was too late, she had been hit. I ran to her and cradled her in my arms, shaking her begging her to open her eyes but she wouldn't. Tears spilled out and I was a sobbing mess, I wanted to kill the person who did this so badly but I knew it would be pointless. Even if I had hurt the person who hit her it wouldn't heal mum. An ambulance had arrived and she was rushed in, they brought me along as well. As soon as we got to the hospital mum was rushed into the ER and I could only stand and wait for the news. 10 minutes later Kenny came running to me, Mikasa in his arms. He pulled me into his embrace, he was never good at comforting people with words so he let his actions speak for themselves. I didn't want to talk and he knew that, I just wanted comforting and Kenny delivered. Mikasa was only three. She didn't fully understand what was going, but what she did know was that I was upset. So she reached out and gently stroked my head with her small hand. I was really worried for mum but Kenny and Mikasa made me feel better with their small, kind gestures.

It had been a couple hours and Mikasa had fallen asleep, Kenny was on his phone (I'm assuming to distract himself) but I was staring at the door waiting for the doctor to tell us how mum was. None of us had talked at all, the only noises were Mikasa's light snores. Then the door opened and the doctor came out, I sprang up and ran to the doctor. I stared intently as I waited for him to talk, Kenny standing behind me.
"She's in a coma, it's unsure whether or not she'll ever wake up but it's highly unlikely." I dropped to the ground, I was scared. I was scared I was going to lose my mum forever, I was scared she would never wake up, I was scared she would die...
