𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐄𝐃, 𝐑𝐔𝐁𝐁𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃 over the back of her neck.
Her mind was racing a thousand times faster than normal, a hundred and one different things running through her brain at the same time. Pressure was being placed on her shoulders in weights she struggled to carry. Her father Haruno, is bringing suitors to her, unable to be stopped by her mother now. Her mother lay sick and weak in bed, barely able to lift herself up enough to sit in a slouch position. Her older brother, the head of their clan, was also under pressure, the alliances with other sorcerer clans drifting and breaking from Y/n denying their sons’ hands in marriage.
Sho had sat down with her earlier that morning, a strained expression on his tired face. When he spoke, his voice was quiet. He didn’t want anyone else to hear their conversation. He led her to the garden, both of them settling on a bench near the patch of orange trees. No one dared to enter her mother’s garden without Y/n or her mother’s permission.
“From how things are going,” He said, closing his eyes with a deep exhale. “I won’t be in control much longer.”
Y/n leaned back, resting her arm over the back of the wooden bench. “What makes you so sure?”
“Our clan is becoming foul in others mouths, Y/n! That old bastard has been running his mouth to the other clans and putting us all in bad places! If he doesn’t shut up-”
“Let me kill him, then,” She stated, watching a small garden snake make its way across the yard, slithering into one of the bushes.
He turned his head to look at her, searching for any kind of humor on her face. He found none. Dropping his head into his hands, the older man groaned softly. He knew she wasn’t joking.
“You can’t, Y/n. For now, it’ll only make things worse,” He stated.
“He’s a bastard man, Sho,” She finally turned her head to him. “You and I both know it.”
“Not yet, Y/n,” He said. She turned her gaze back to the wall.
“If he gets caught in the crossfire, it’s not my fault,” She hummed.
“Y/n do you even understand how serious this is? We can lose everything. They will kill us--”
“I’d like to see them try,” She said. “They wouldn’t step foot on the estate before dropping dead.”
“And what if they manage to kill you?” He inquired.
“Do you think Satoru would let that happen?” She replied, making him tense up for a moment. “He’s also a bastard man, but he’s a smart bastard and a caring one too. He wouldn’t let anything happen.”
