[JUGHEAD'S POV]

It was supposed to be a simple check against the Ghoulies, Serpents' rival gang. Betty and Toni had seen them too calm and too quiet when they had gone to check on them day before, something was wrong. It was my duty as Serpent king to decide how to proceed, but it was Betty's duty, as Serpent queen to decide how to proceed too; it took the whole day to decide: I wanted just me, her and a couple other serpents to go to not attract attention, but Betty wanted almost all the serpents to go "if they're preparing themselves for something big we need to be able to stop it" she said. In the end we agreed that half of the Serpents were going. I remember that night so well, we gathered up at our base at sunset, Ghoulies' base was in the middle of the woods, so we picked our motorcycles and drove until we arrived at Fox Forest, we were a bit armed, enough to defend ourselves. Betty wanted to bring her baseball bat, I was fine with it, every time we are in this type of situations she's my biggest worry, but at the same time I perfectly know she can take care of herself. We tried to be as quiet as possible. When we saw their base we hided and decided that only 3 couples of us would go forward from 3 different sides and warn the others if they saw anything. Sweet Pea and Fangs would've gone to the right, Cheryl and Toni to left and Betty and I in the middle; but as soon as we turned the corner Ghoulies were waiting for us, they threw themselves on us, armed to the teeth, at least nobody had a gun. "I's an ambush!" I screamed, Serpents arrived to fight, of course there was no way we had just run away. We were numerically inferior but strong enough to face all of them. I don't know how since there was a lot of noise, but despite this, or maybe because I wasn't too far, I was able hear Betty screaming for help, I turned around and saw a man dragging her into the woods while holding her tight with his arm and his hand was covering her mouth before she bit him being able to scream "HELP!"; I ran as fast as I could and showed that son of a bitch what were the consequences, he fell on the ground and I checked on her forcing myself not to think about what would have happened if I hadn't been there; my thoughts got interrupted "JUG!" she screamed, I turned around and it was everything that I could do before a gunshot sound invaded the battlefield and a bullet hit my chest. Betty looked at the man I had just beat up and saw he was holding the gun so she picked her bat up and broke his head in less than 3 seconds, an horrible sound of cracking was heard and then the man 's scream. I fell on the ground bleeding. "GUYS HAVE MY BACK!" I heard Betty yelling, then she leaned over me and held my face in her hands "Jug, hey stay with me" she spoke taking off her jacket and putting it on my wound, pressing and trying desperately to stop the flow of blood "it's gonna be ok, everything's gonna be ok if you keep your eyes open" she told me with tears in her eyes, she was panicking and still trying to stop the bleeding. After my queen broke that man's head like it was nothing, let's say Ghoulies got a bit scared and after some minutes they announced the retirement and runaway, so the fight was over and Serpents won. Betty was holding my head in her hands, tears rolling down her face, her beautiful face "Just stay here with me, Jug, please" her voice was full of terror, and i couldn't see her suffering like that and I couldn't do anything. "Betty, I called the ambulance, it's gonna be here in 15 minutes, but we have to take him out of the woods" Toni announced with a worried voice. I knew I couldn't resist that long, I knew I was gonna die..."Betts, baby" I said taking her hands in mine, she looked at me in the eyes "Jug, please we have to take you out of the woods..." was the only thing that shakily came out of her mouth. Serpents had all come close to us, but were staying far enough back, they knew what was going on. She was leaned over me, covered of blood, her long blonde hair fell from behind her ears, and I couldn't stop looking at her in those emerald eyes of hers. I was forcing myself to keep my eyes open but hey wouldn't collaborate "I need you to listen to me" only whispers were coming out from my mouth "Please babe, we need t-" I interrupted her "Betty I don't know if I can resist so hear me out" she wiped away a tear with her wrist and looked at me "Death doesn't scare me... but losing you does. So my last whisper is for you, baby." tears came up to my eyes "You're the most precious thing in my life and I will always, always protect you. You have to promise me that you'll find someone else, and get married, have kids and be happy." She was shaking her head with tears in her eyes "No...I can't do that" "Yes you do, just promise me you'll find your way to be happy" she nodded "You're not gonna die, Jug. I'm not letting you die" "Listen, I just need you to know that I love you... so much, Betty. I'll never stop loving you" she leaned in and gently placed her lips against mine for a quite long time, I could feel her tears on my skin, then she slowly pulled away pecking my lips "I love you too Jughead" I smiled softly and then closed my eyes, her hands holding my face were frozen, I could hear her voice begging me to stay with her slowly fading, until I couldn't hear it anymore, then I knew: I was dead. But I will always protect her, no matter how, no matter what. Neither God knows how fucking much I love her.
