[JUGHEAD'S POV]

Usually in the morning I wake up first, come downstairs and make coffee for me and Betty, when she comes down I'm leaving for work, she leaves some minutes later when Veronica comes pick her up and leave her at the FBI station before she goes to her jewellery. At lunch time I usually go pick her up at the station and either we eat at home or we have lunch in some Cafe, then I drive her back to work because in the afternoon I keep writing my books at home, after being in the publishing all the morning; it' not like she doesn't have a driver's license or we don't have two cars, she has her car...she just doesn't like driving. She usually finishes work at 6:30pm and I go pick her up, after dinner we relax for the rest of the night. But for some days things were going to be different and that night, that fatal night, we had no idea our lives were going to change.

Archie and Veronica had decided to leave for 10 days on a romantic vacation in Mexico, just to have some fun; so Betty went to work by herself, nothing special. After a week of this situation everything hadn't happened. It seemed a normal evening, I was in my studio writing my new novel , but when I checked the time I started getting a bit suspicious, it was 7pm and she hadn't called me or texted me that she finished working, but not a big deal, maybe she just forgot about it, nevermind, I went downstairs and started preparing dinner, at 8pm I started getting worried, no calls, no texts no signs of life... I decided to leave probably the 100th voice message after I had called her for the umpteenth time and she had entered the answering machine "Betty, baby, it's me again, please I'm really worried call me back asap. Love you." I could feel that something was wrong. I sat on the sofa waiting for her to enter from the red door of our home.

Around 9pm my phone rang on the table of the kitchen rang and I woke up, I had fallen asleep on the sofa, an unknown number: "Hello, who is it?" I asked "Am I talk to Jughead Jones?" a female voice spoke, but it wasn't Betty's voice, "Yes, that's me" I answered a bit confused "I'm calling from Riverdale General Hospital" my heart missed a beat "You're Elizabeth Cooper's emergency number, she has just been rushed in the operating room, she had a car accident, probably a little over a couple hours ago, her conditions are pretty bad: she was unconscious and she had lost a lot of blood" I dropped the phone, I couldn't believe it, no, that couldn't be true. The moments and the actions after that call are a bit blurry and confused; I remember getting in the car and driving to the hospital, when I got there I immediately asked a nurse for Elizabeth Cooper "She's still in operating room, you can wait here, doctor Masters will come here when it's time" I paced back and forth in the waiting room... alone... I decided to call Archie and Veronica. "Hey dude, speaker's on, how are you guys doing?" Archie said from the other side of the phone "Hey guys!" Veronica spoke "I wish you were here with us so we could have fun all together! B you have no idea what kind of cocktails they do here. I miss you so much, B. Betty?" "Actually guys" I said shaking "Betty had a car accident a couple hours ago and she's still in operating room. Doctors said she's quite bad, I'm so worried" a moment of silent came after that, then Veronica spoke again "Please, tell me this is a joke and she's laughing next to you, please, I need to hear it" her voice broke and then I could hear her soft cry "Jug, we're so sorry..." Archie started saying but Veronica interrupted him "We're leaving. Jughead, we're taking the plane as soon as possible but we should be there for tomorrow evening. Tell her from me that I'll come to hell to take her back here... I'm not letting she fucking die" Veronica said, I couldn't see her but I knew tears were slowly rolling down her face, "Keep us informed, Jug, we'll be there as soon as possible."

Around 11:30pm doors opened and a doctor asked "Elizabeth Cooper?" I stood up and walked closer to him "How's she?" I asked shaking "She made it, she's stable, but we have to wait for her to wake up" he said kindly "Can I go see her?" he looked at me "I'm sorry Jughead, but I'm afraid this is not possible" "Please, I need to see her. Please let me see her" he looked around and saw there was no one, then said "Listen Jughead, I've seen you at your worst when you were here... and I remember  she was so worried, she refused to leave the waiting room so I let her sleep next to you, I guess I can make an exception for you too" "Thank you so much" "Room 28B, end of the hallway on the right".

When I walked in I saw her. She was lying on the bed, with her blonde hair down on the pillow and her eyes closed, she had stitches on her forehead and cuts on the face, she had an oxygen tube, and was attached to the machines that monitor the pulse, I took her hand and kissed it, then I sat on the armchair next to the bed and looked at her, she was sleeping so peacefully and so in pain at the same time. I wished I could've done something.
