*WARNING: Super long!*
Whitley sat silently in the passenger's side of August's car, thinking about the events that had just unfolded. August's words about leaving everyone to their imagination had processed in Whitley's mind. She then realized how bad it would look for Corinne to be grinding on August's roommate after being speculated to have had sex with August, so she attempted to convince Corinne to stop. However, it only made Corinne angry.
"Why? So you can take him from me too," were Corinne's exact words before scoffing and walking away.
Whitley no longer felt welcome at the party and made the decision to leave, but being that her friends weren't going to be ready anytime soon, she had no ride home. Not knowing anyone else at the party and not wanting to pay $15 to Uber five minutes away, Whitley's only other option was to ask August. However, this only made matters worse because moments after leaving, she received a lengthy text from Corinne, temporarily terminating their friendship. Despite not being at fault, Whitley felt bad about the situation. Although there was nothing going on between her and August, Whitley could see how things could appear otherwise from Corinne's point of view. Whitley let out a frustrated sigh and sunk in heat seat.
August witnessed what transpired between the two girls, although he didn't hear it. He did have a pretty good idea about what happened and felt Whitley was being way too hard on herself for the matter, so he broke the silence.
"Beatin yaself up about it ain't gone do ya no justice," August said with his attention fixated on the road.
Whitley just looked at him briefly before retreating back into her thoughts while staring out of the window. August chuckled.
"Whats funny?" Whitley mumbled.
"You," August simply replied.
"Me?"
Whitley now directed all her attention towards him. Although she never initially saw the issue as August's doing, she was slightly irritated by his amusement and was growing far more annoyed at his presence by the minute, especially now that she had come to the realization he was the root of the issue anyway.
"Yes, you. Fa' one, ya stressin' yaself out about a issue that'ah resolve wit time," he said as the car approached a red light.
"And two," he continued, holding up two fingers, "Wheneva I try ta' talk ta' ya, ya get mute. Why?"
August turned to look at Whitley through his shades.
"I make ya nervous or som'? Or you just shy?"
Little did he know, he was right about both. Whitley was a very shy girl upon initially meeting someone and she was indeed very nervous around August. Every time she felt she had him figured out, he'd do something to contradict her perception. However, Whitley wasn't going to let him know that. She just shrugged.
"You're just... strange," Whitley said. August Chuckled.
"So, I make ya nervous. Thas cute," he smirked, flashing a smile Whitley's way. She began to blush immediately, however August didn't notice.
