6. heartfelt reunion

[so i didn't proofread this lol, i had to write it all over again because wattpad thought it'd be cool to close the app and delete the chapter :D ]

opening your eyes ever so slightly, you were greeted by the heartwarming sight of mono, who was in an extremely uncomfortable position; he wanted you to be comfortable - even if it was at his own expense.

you giggled slightly, raising your head off his lap and laying down beside him, allowing him to manoeuvre his sleeping form into a better position.

"i thought i lost you .."

you smiled warmly as he said that, feeling his hand softly caress your cheek, watching you intently through his paper bag.

"well, i knew you were going to find your way back to me somehow!"

both of you laughed, turning onto your backs and staring at the cracked ceiling above you. the laughter eventually died out; you and mono were absorbed into a comfortable silence for a while, enjoying each other's presence.

"we should probably get going, y/n." mono stood up hastily, dusting himself off before offering his hand to you, which you gladly accepted with a small smile.
making your way towards the window, you both pulled it up, quickly escaping out of the grubby school bathroom.

entering another room in the school, you looked around, letting out a small squeak as mono swiftly pulled you behind him, one arm stretched out in front of you to prevent any harm coming your way.

suddenly, your eyes had landed on another porcelain student at the school, watching intently as it scratched the white chalk onto the wooden floorboard, the small scrapes causing you to wince slightly.

"y/n, stay behind m-!" mono was cut off quickly as he watched you crawl towards the porcelain being, treading with feather-like footsteps as you approached the distracted kid.

mono felt his heartbeat speed up ever so slightly, leaving small palpitations along the way. he noticed the metal pipe across the room, and tried his hardest to crawl over to it slightly, hoping he could reach it in time.

just as he had picked it up in his small hands, mono had turned around to be met with the sight of you beating the kids head against the hard and bartered floor until it's head shattered in your hands, the remaining pieces littering the ground around you.

retracing your footsteps slightly, you walked over to mono as if nothing had happened, giggling at his awestruck face.
"while i do think that was really cool, i ask that you be more careful next time." he mumbled, feeling his chest tighten up.

mono was naturally protective, he couldn't help the anxious feeling that grew in his stomach whenever the thought of you being hurt appeared in his complicated brain. you stood there for a moment, perplexed, staring at mono as the atmosphere slowly turned more serious.

"...of course mono!"

despite the slightly awkward and heavy feeling that was now surrounding you, you still decided to agree with him. it's not like you weren't careful, anyway.

"i mean it. i don't want anything to happen to you," mono paused, glancing away for a second and messing with his paper bag. "especially because you're the first friend i've had in a while."
