I had informed Rias about what happened. And surprisingly, she took it extremely well.
Like seriously.
I was honestly expecting a rant and lecture about how reckless I was and how much blowback there may be.
And I got nothing.
I had explained everything from the start and about the deal I've made with Azazel. All she had to say was 'I'm grateful you're ok' and 'I'll let you handle Issei'. Either Rias is far more forgiving than I ever gave credit for, or Akeno talked her down and she's still fuming. I'm not sure which I would be more surprised at.
Hearing the door creek open behind me I ended my internal monologues and turned around. I was in fact on the roof of the school before classes started. I shot a text to Issei asking him to meet me here for that explanation.
And low and behold, here he was.
Walking towards me I could 'see' the nervousness coming off of him. Stopping a fair distance away he collected himself before speaking.
"I-I'm here. You promised me an explanation." He declared. While he was putting on a strong facade I could tell he was ready to run. "First, relax. Still your friend no matter what I am." I order while taking a casual stance leaning against the rail. "Ok, ok, it's just, what was that? What happened to Yuuma? Wha... what are you?"
"What I am really, is a very long story, however for simplicity sake I am a Devil." I explained to his surprise. "Wait. Devil? As in Devil from hell Devil?" He sputtered out. "Exactly, though not from hell." I clarified. "We don't have time for the full story so I'll give you the tldr. Heaven and Hell are real, Yuuma whose real name is Raynare, is a Fallen angel. The three factions Heaven, Hell, and Fallen are in a Cold War of sorts. Raynare was targeting you due to a special relic you have. Something called a Sacred Gear. She was forced to kill you because her leaders saw you as a threat." I explained giving him a moment to digest.
"So this, Sacred Gear... thing, is why Yu.. Raynare asked me out?" He asked. "Afraid so." "Then, what happened? Last night I mean. After you teleported me home."
"After I got you outta there Raynare and I had a little chat. She has a friend, who like her, was being forced to kill humans under the threat of death. I am currently working with them to shut down this rogue group of Fallen threatening Kuoh." I explained.
"She... was forced?" He muttered under his breath. "Yeah. But don't worry about her. I'm already handling it. Besides, my 'boss' has an offer for you." I said smirking. "Really? What kind of offer?" He asked surprised.
"That is for her to say. If you wanna hear her out, you're going to need to wait for after school." I said walking towards him. "Ok, I'll hear her out then. This is weird though. All the biblical stuff is real." He said rubbing the back of his head. "Way more than just the 'biblical stuff' is real. And should you accept her offer I'll be able to tell you about it." I said punching his shoulder lightly.
"Now come on. Classes start soon."
*Later*
Sitting beside Issei in class he kept trying to ask questions about the supernatural. Every time I gave him a 'maybe' or 'perhaps'. Half because I am an asshole like that. Half because if he doesn't accept Rias's offer he's just gunna have his memory wiped.
Leaning back into my chair to meditate through class I felt a sudden wave of exhaustion. The same kind when I first met...
...aww fuck.
Falling asleep I quickly awoke to the cold empty expanse of the void. Sighing I took a seat on a nearby rock as I awaited 'him' to show up.
"As punctual as always." A voice said from behind me.
