Chapter 18 Let the Games Begin

Gotta say you guys I really adore and hate how much attention this story is getting. I noticed this one reached #1 in both Harem and Prototype for a few days. My god that puts a ghostly pressure on me to see this done... anyway onto this chapter. It will be a two parter so stay tuned.

*Phenex Estate, 6 Hours Till Rating Game, Yubelluna POV*

The time is nearly upon us, the Rating Game only a few short hours away.

Sitting in my room I was joined by nearly the entire peerage, save for Ravel and Riser themselves. Looking around at the girls I call my friends I could see and feel the unease in the air. Everyone was nervous about the coming match. But almost all of that fear was due to one man...

Alex Mercer.

Feeling the slightest of chills at his name I gripped the second letter he had sent.

"You gunna tell us why you called us here Yui? Or are you just gunna look at that damn letter?" Isabela said breaking the silence. "I am in agreement, though I am curious why this letter is such a problem." Karlamine added as she continued to clean her armour.

Time to rip this bandaid off...

"I have called everyone here because of this letter." I announced before standing. "Or namely... who sent this letter." I added as I walked to our little circle. "Who is it? Who is it?" Ni and Li eagerly asked as they began bouncing in their seats.

"Alex Mercer..." I muttered earning an immediate reaction.

"Colluding with the enemy now Yui?" Siris asked almost angry. "I want to know why he reached out to you of all people." Xuelan asked confused. "We want nothing to do with the scary man!" Ile and Nel cried out as they hugged each other. "Shut up!" Karlamine finally shouted. "Perhaps if you pipe down she'll tell us." She explained before turning her attention to me.

"The other day I received 2 letters from Mercer." I began. "The first was a request that I gather the members of the peerage that wouldn't tell Riser and read them the second." I explained. "It would appear he wishes to settle something and that he is sympathetic towards us for how Lord Riser treats us."

Seeing everyone either grit their teeth or shudder at the memories I leaned against my desk and held up the letter.

"I say we vote on it. Either we open it and see what he wants. Or we burn it and forget this ever happened." I said laying out our options. "What's stopping us from telling Riser?" Mihae asked. "Mercer really hates Riser and would like nothing more than to kill him." Shuriya pointed out. "But the look of disgust and sympathy he had when Master began groping Yubelluna, I believe he has good intentions sending us this letter." She finished as she leaned back into her chair.

Looking around I saw many reluctant nods as everyone turned their attention to me. "Then we agree to read the letter?" I ask. Seeing several nods I reached behind me to grab my letter opener. With a small slice I opened the envelope and reached inside.

Only to be confused as I felt nothing inside.

Tracing my fingers through I began looking over the envelope, but I wasn't missing anything.

It was empty.

Looking up at everyone I was about to open my mouth only to see that everyone's confusion had turned to fear as they stared at the envelope. Looking back down at the envelope I also began to fear as a dark inky substance was leaking from it. Dropping it immediately I stepped away as the now pooling darkness.
